Joe - Let me know when you need a hand! This is gonna be a cool project!

Looks like the nickname fits! But like you said it still looks to be solid where it counts so you can certainly bring it back. We'll have to see who finishes first! You've got more welding to do than me but I suspect you may get a bit more garage time than I do also. And I have to do all my painting off site now. Could be close.

I figured this would happen sooner or later, a friendly competition to see who finishes first. I want to see the two cars side-by-side at the Fox-A-Que next summer.

Please take plenty of pic of the floor pan replacement. My interior looks like your right now. Need to replace passenger side pan and patch drivers side. Switching to black interior also.

    Default Floor Pan

Ok, started inside on the floor, first up was to remove the support brace that the front seats monut to, lots of spot welds:

    and fully out:

Then removed the driver side pan:

Took it out in pieces, here's the scrap that's left:

Need to do the same to the passenger side, it looks like Swiss Cheese:

Even with new floor pans, you need to re-use this stuff:

And here is the front end, all stripped down:

That's all for now, heading out later tonight for more surgery

    damn dude - you're a brave man!

But I love the fact that you're saving it....it would be way too easy to just sell it for scrap

Tom, you're a wizard with auto builds. I would never attempt the sort of custom mods that you did to your PC. I think the resto is much easier than the custom work...

Well, I've been collecting parts to rebuild this thing for the last 4 years. So stuff that I've bought, I leave it in the box and mark it. For the dissassembly, I bag common hardware (ie interior stuff in one bag, engine bay in another, etc). The larger misc parts I just box up. My basement is full of all the stuff for this car.

But one thing I don't do is parts hoard. If I see something f/s that I need, I buy it and store away. But I don't just go buying parts for the fun of it.

Also, I've been ripping into / rebuilding 79-93 fox Mustangs / Capris for over 20 years now, so I have pretty good idea what goes where and with what sort of hardware. Hopes this helps answer the question.

Got tired of working inside the car on the floors, so today I dug into the passenger front frame rail. Looked like a past issue with battery acid:

I cut out a pretty good section ~ 17" overall:

Then started to patch in new metal:

I still need to replace the outside and bottom of this side, maybe tomorrow. I put about 3-4 hours in on this repair, after that my back was shot....

You are like some fearless superhero, do you run out in the garage like Clark Kent runs into the phone booth and put on your superhero outfit when doing this?

I am waiting til you goof and catch a reflection and we know for real.

Joe - The work looks awesome. I took notes on that battery area frame repair. I think I know where that might come in handy again...

With both floorpans out of the car, and it being a T-Top, do you have to do anything to keep the car straight? Would SFC's be helpful? Just curious...

Thanks for posting pics of the floor removal. How did you decide where to make the cut on the transmission hump on the floor? Did you lay the new pan in and mark it?

Looking good Joe. You'll probably have those pans in before I even start cutting the rust out of mine if you keep going at this rate. Nice fab work on the frame rail too.

Doug - even w/o the floors, the car is still very structurally sound. Between the rocker panels and the top, there is plenty of structure left. And I have a set of SFC's that I'll be welding in once the floor sections are back in.

And, yup - we may need to do that to a certain other t-top car, but hopefully not as extensive

No problem, I basically cut out anything that was rotted. There's plenty of extra metal on the pans. When I go to actually install the new pans, I will use the opening of the floor to mark (from the bottom) the new pan. Then I'll leave about 3/8" to 1/2" of overlap on the pan to the remaining floor....

Well, I only have 1 floor pan right now (need to get the passenger side). I've been focusing in the engine bay for now, because I'm tired of pushing this thing around....
