Looks like you are making great progress!

The unused hole in question on the quarters is there I assume to assist in moving the parts when welding the body together or locating holes to align everything for welding the body together. The hole usually has a rubber plug in it, but thanks to age, wear, tear, etc. many of them are either missing or leaking. I too have welded a few up over the years for the same reasons.

I'm with Jeff and Stan as to the Hood latch Issue

Could it be a "typical" FoMoCo "Running Change", which Ford was known to do from time to time with little bits and pieces on the Gen 1 & 2 Mustangs that I owned, popping up in this case ?

Also great to see you back on the Project !

I don't think so, I have a feeling that this one was simply made wrong from the start. Prob the reason why it's been bouncing around so long.

Thanks Ed. Pretty sure that latch is the same for all 79-86 and maybe even later fox chassis vehicles, but just my guess.

    Thanks Boomer.

    Latest updates, went from this:

To this (unused holes welded shut, then a coat of rust encapsulation primer):

    Patch panel cut and fit:

Turn and burn (and all ground down):

    Thanks Ed.

I fired up the old girl tonight (first time in a while), pulled it out of the garage, spun it around and then backed it in. This will give me easier access to the driver side. Rinse - repeat... Once the driver side is complete, that should be a wrap for major rust / rot repair.

^^^Thanks. So the storm moved in today. That's the official end of the Mustang driving season for me. Not bad considering I drove the SVO right up until earlier this week.... Anyway, with it looking like this outside:

I decided to finish up the c-pillar on the drivers side:

    Another:

Not too bad considering what I started with:

So that pretty much wraps up the rust / rot repair on the car. Onward to panel smoothing and lots of sanding....

This is just awesome! I love metal work and rust repair. As much as it takes forever to fix a rotten car, it's the process of fabricating, welding and grinding that's therapeutic.

Looks like you're killing two birds with one stone with those c-pillar patches. Fixing rust, and you're getting rid of the roof skin seam that always comes out as a little wave in the paint job. Nice!

Joe, you are an ARTIST! I go up to Westfield fairly often (I have a good reason - you met her once) so I'll have to make a side trip to your place and see the progress you're making.

Ken - I'm actually looking forward to the next step. As long as I'm not in a rush, the final finish / sanding will be a breeze.
