    Joe -

Clearly now there is much less "Rotter" to Rescue than 4 Months ago !

    That said:

While, in Jeff's words "Season Over",

You can take a well deserved "Hiatus" ( love that TV lingo ) from Rescuing the Rotter and do some other slightly less Incredible projects

Not much of an update, car is still being stored (thanks to DZNJ). However, I did some "black-Friday" shopping, picked up a NOS hood:

A question about your dash hull. What overall condition was it in? Any issues re mounting it? The dash in my Turbo RS was beyond crap (7 major breaks, not cracks). I have a replacement from an 85-86 with the obvious radio opening difference but is in MUCH better condition.

The hull is in pretty decent condition. Some "issues" near the defroster vents, but a lot of the hulls has the same problem. No issues with cracks on any of the visible areas of the dash. So there were no issues with removal or re-installation....

Great to see that you have accomplished a large amount of the "Some Assembly Required " part.

Might we get to see the Debut of your latest SVO at MU ?

Negative Ed, the white SVO resides in PA. Plan is to take it to Carlisle if I can get the rear end issue straightened out prior to then...
Probably take the convertible to MU.

Ok, been a while since I've updated this thread. Brought the car back home this past summer. I've been pecking away at it as time allows....

Installed the hood only to find out that the latch won't catch / hold the hood closed.

So I took it back off and found out that the latch area of the new hood is wrong / too short:

Here you can see the difference between the original hood and the NOS one that I'm using:

So out comes the cut off wheel, welder, and grinder:

    Welded:

    Final measurement:

And the reason why I ditched the original hood:

    "rotter"

Ok, last of the "trouble" areas on the rotter - C-pillars:

Close-up of the rot coming through from the inside out:

I think this little hole has a lot to do with it. It was covered with buytl tape on the inside and I suspect over time moisture got in to the inner structure and caused the rust and rot.

I plan on welding this hole shut since it's not used for mounting of the sail panels....

So cutting out the bad sheet metal we find lots of rust on the inner structure:

Cleaned up with a grinder and heavy wire wheel then hit it with rust converter:

    Driver side - rinse repeat:

Also, I plan on welding up these holes before patching over the roof panel to the quarter panel (see yellow mark on the picture above).

And I sanded off the last of the original paint/re-paint from the roof panel:

Working on preparing patch panels for both areas on the quarter panels. Once I get those welded, I'll post another update....
