Nice job! i am taking a turbo coupe out this week with a 363 dart with afr heads drag radials and a little boost just to work on the 60'. We are doing 20lbs of boost off the line and 10 down track. and only at 16 years old![]()

Very cool. My son and I are doing a project together. Perhaps your dad can lend a hand on wash day.

Ok running 10's means adding some more safety items. If am not mistaken. Trans shield, after market axles, c-clip eliminators and engine damper. Not sure if I'm missing something or have miss interpreted the rule book. My 6 point rollbar is still good.
If anybody could add in it would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

First, congrats on the 10.xx pass!
I dont remember offhand but was thinking you would need an 8 point roll bar.
Basically an extra strut from the main hoop down to where the upper control arms mount to the body.
Thought this rule was for unibody cars but could be wrong.
Other things to check, fire extinguisher, wheel stud length, seat belt inspections?
I dont really remember if you need to worry about any of that. Also, might have to wear a fire jacket now.

Ok the car has been in storage for sometime now. Picked up a msd 2 step. Hoping this will help my 60 ft. Also plan on doing a carb upgrade for the new season. No other major upgrades are planned as I will have to watch my $$$ as I will be retiring in 2013.

I could never foot brake the car to 2000 rpm. Do you think with the 2 step I will be able to.

Unless something has changed recently, the typical MSD 2 step doesn`t go below 3000 RPM. MSD does make a red low RPM chip, that comes with a small screwdriver, to adjust a screw for the lower RPM settings. I have 2 steps in both my cars, but have never tried anywhere near that low. (5600 RPM for the Mustang,6200 RPM for the Fairmont!![]()

I just sold my 66 coupe with a 408, I struggled with et just as you are but started with the car in the mid 11's and ended up in the 10.teens. This is what I learned through the process. A custom cam built for your intentions is worth every last penny it costs. I was way off from the off the shelf cam that I installed originally......WAY OFF!. Also learned that a 408 needs a super victor in a big way. Not a victor JR! Also needs a 950 carb. With the 750 holley HP that I started with I was trapping at almost 2" of vacuum. With the 950 it was under 1/2". The cam, super victor, and the carb put me well into the 10's and the last half second was all in the converter! Once again a custom unit using my weight, cam, hp, cubic inches, torque curve and launch rpm as key factors in building the converter. Going from 11.57 @ 119 to 10.18 @ 134 in 2 months without a gear/head/tire suspension change is hard to do. Ed Curtis at FTI is the best of the best with custom cams. Woody at Fordstrokers.com knows what parts match and made the recomendation for the super victor and even knew how much needed to be milled of the ends and sides to "match up perfectly" to my AFR 205's. I used trans specialties just outside of philly for the converter, but Coan and Neil Chance art the peoples favorite.

Yes, if your pulling vacuum at wide open throttle at 6000 rpms your carb is to small.
Mine was a street car also, 10.8 to 1 compression, 93 octane pump gas, and with the custom cam it had street manners and decent vacuum at idle. I think you have a lot left in your combo. A custom cam and converter may put you deep into the 10's easily .20's - .30's and very close to 130 mph. Only being able to foot brake 2000 is an indication that your brakes are garbage or that converter is way too tight. My converter flashed at 4k and I could easily foot brake 3k! Your issue may be shocking the tires if you start launching that car at 4-5k. Your motor should be making 400+ tq at 4k and pulling 1.4 60 ft times.
Yes my manual brakes are garbage! The converter will flash to 3500. My compression ratio is around 9.5 to 1. Street car turned race car ugh.

As soon as the weather warms up I'll be installing the 2 step and doing 94-95 front disc upgrade. Keeping the manual brakes. With the 10 inch fronts I can't hold the car at the line. I am hoping I'll be able to launch a little closer to my 3500 converter flash rpm. What do you think?

If you can't hold her with 10" front disc, you need Hawk pads!

Hawk Pads on my Aerospace brakes. What type of pads are you using?
Just regular parts store ones. Perhaps I should invest some money in them. Did you notice a significant difference with these pads?

Put a 5500 converter in it and you will be in the 10's that is all you need to do.
