Try dropping down your Total Timing a little. Might want to Lock Out your Distributor too. Carb./Camshaft seems a little small. On my 427 Windsor for comparison =
    1. Total Timing = 28* Locked Out
    2. Pro Systems Carb. = 840 cfm
    3. Soilid Roller Cam Specs. = 252/257 Dur. .683/.685 Lift, and 112 Lobe Separation
    4. Rocker Arm Ratio = 1.7s
    Hope this helps!

what thickness head gaskets are you running? a bump in compression wouldn't hurt

and if you don't have at least a 1" carb spacer spacer I would say for the $20 it's worth a try...

What kind of fuel pump do you have?

I'll bet it's not more than 110-140 gph.

    aluminum rad
    gutted doors
lexan door windows and quarter windows
    All unnecessary wires removed
    no panels inside
gutted the dash, no steel frame
    no bumpers
    no head lights
    no dog bone on rearend
fuel cell with only 3 gallons in it
    optima battery
    open header
    aluminum driveshaft
mt drag only front runners not the heavy street tires
took the hole saw every where
    no ebrake stuff
no sway bars, and removed the brackets they attach too
    lite weight racing seat
removed all tail lite wires except for one lite
i hole sawed the area under the rad. and interior panels
took alot of sheet metal from under the hood
UPR K member and coil overs
we removed OD from the AOD
    no egr plate
    no O2 sensors
everything that was for emissions has been removed
I asked 131 tech about its accuracy and they state for events wear weight needs to be checked the scale has to be accurite.
Mike look at your fronts you have big tires i weighed my fronts from when i switched from my streets to the race only and that alone was 20 pounds off the front.
Also: no altenator, no heating or cooling equipment, no passenger side mirror, no quad shocks or brackets that use to exist for there function, extra bolts and nots that are not needed. And we found that a tranny cooler was not needed so all those lines related to that have also been removed. I disk brakes on the back. Weigh one of your head lites once and you will be surprised.
And yes it has an 8 point cage and all required equipment that meets NHRA standards.
    The human brain (7 pounds)
every little bit helps right, sounds like you trailor has more wiring than your car.

If you run the fuel cell in the front you can drop another 50 pounds or so........I was being serious with that.

Same et but faster mph.... either had a headwind or was spinning.

Higher mph means your making more power so if it was bad air, you might pick up a little more.

    What was your 60'?

I had that pump for years. Cant remember for sure I'd put money on it being around 110 to 140 gph.

MMM thinner gasket would raise the ratio correct?

I am a jackass sometimes...i meant (and edited) same et and faster MPH

I saw you changed the intake and is likely the cause of more MPH even in crappy air.

I guess head wind isnt right but spinning could be.

Also, you went from a dual plane to a single. Your powerband is going to change. You will likely have to experiment with different launches.

are you going to try any of this?

for me a 140 gph pump WILL NOT GO FASTER THAN 120 in the quarter. you need more volume of fuel, what you have will not support it unless this is a 400 HP 408ci, then you have a whole bunch more problems.

run a second pump in line, see if it helps

I gotta disagree, my 85 Mustang goes 128MPH in the 1/4 mile, with a single Holley GPH110 electric fuel pump that has been in the car for 10 years. My Fairmont also uses a Holley 110, and goes 132 MPH. (that pumps been in the car since I completed, it in 1988 24 years!)
Hell, my buddys 64 Comet with my 331 in it went 124MPH with a 60GPH mechanical fuel pump!

1985 Mustang LX hatchback NHRA Stock Eliminator 302 4 speed best in legal trim 12.31@107 mph, but has gone 11.42@115 with aftermarket intake, carb, and iron Windsor Jr. heads.New for 2012! 331 cube SB Ford, AFR 185 heads, solid flat tappet cam, pump gas; 10.296ET@128.71 mph, 1.37 60 foot.

Not enough gear, go 4.10 or 4.30. The 60' should be in the 1.40 to 1.50 range.

I have some 27 inch tall tires to swap out for my 28s. I now have 3.73 not sure that it will be enough

Yeah, give the 27" tires a try. That should put you to an equivalent of 3.90-4.10 gear. Although if your spinning, this will make it worse.

What kind of tire? Hopefully a set of dr's at least.

    That is a sweet setup!
The 28" ET drags shouldnt be spinning with a 3.73 gear but the car should be 60' ing better.
What air pressure roughly are you running?

What kind of converter are you running? Maybe it isnt hitting as hard as it should be.

Also, (might have been covered) what suspension both front and rear?

I don't think I am spinning either. Tire pressure was a 12lbs. The converter is a little tight. No transbrake and I don't footbrake it. I leave just off idle and the trans flashes to about 3500 rpm. Front Lakewood drag shocks and Eibach drag springs. No sway bar. The weight transfer seem to be pretty good and the car launches straight. Rear I have some qa1 drag shocks and the springs are stock. Stock sway bar. The control arms have been boxed and the lca has been lower at the rear end mount by .75"

  24. #74

    Good setup.

The rubber bushings in the lca's might be flexing some.

Have you ever tried a 2 step at maybe 2500 rpm?

    Oh, stock uca's?

I would also see if you could borrow a 850 and give it a go.

    10.9x is in your future!!

Hey, thats at Mission Raceway! Do you run the weekend bracket races or the Friday night street legals? I had my 85 Mustang at the first Sat night streel legal a few weeks ago, but mainly run the Sat & Sun races, mainly the Super Shifter class atMission and Bremerton WA. By the way, M/T 9x28 ET Drags actually measure out at a bit less than 27 1/2" tall, although the 10 x28s are really 28" tall. Go Figure. I agree that your 60 foots should be better, when my 85 was running 12.3s, the 60 foots were in the mid-low 1.6s. Now that it runs mid 10s, the 60 foots are in the low 1.4s. Granted I do run a stick with 4.88 gears, and don`t street drive the car. Have you ever tried holding the throttle against the brakes as high as possible on the starting line? Any foot braked, non 2 step automatic I`ve ever had always ran faster doing that, providing the tires grab.
