Default Big News! 1982 SSP Research

Over on the .NET SSP forum, we have a thread going on some very recent research that we've been doing on the Special Service Mustangs:

Thanks to FoxChassis and the fine folks at Marti Auto Works, we have been able to correct some erroneous information that has been a common belief for years. Specifically, it was common opinion that Ford initially called this option 'Severe Service Package' in 1982, and in 1983 they changed the name to 'Special Service Package'. Through our research, we determined with 100% certainty that the 1982 SSP Mustangs ordered by the CHP were in fact "Special Service Package" cars.

Thanks to all who contributed to this discovery!

The following information was posted in the CHP hatchback thread, but it certainly belongs here, too. For years, it has been reported that the CHP purchased 406 Mustangs in 1982. Mustang Kid posted up some documentation, as shown here...

...which says that the CHP ordered 400 1982 Mustang COUPES, and in another document confirms the total number of 1982 Mustangs (coupes and hatchbacks) to be 404 units. We are doing additional research on the 1982 cars to see if we can arrive at a definitive answer as to how many SSPs were built that first year.
