    Default SVO PPG pace car

Does anyone have pictures or info on the PPG SVO Pace Car from 1991?

I recall seeing the car at a CART/Indy event in the Meadowlands (NJ) with several other PPG pace cars. I searched the internet (Google, Yahoo, Bing)but came up empty. I really thought I had some pictures of it but so far I"ve come up empty.

It was metallic or dark candy green simular to the 7-up Fox vert. I'll keep looking for my pictures.

Is this the car you are looking for? I think I have more pictures, but I would have to dig through some old photos and scan them.

Thank you, that's the one. Great shot too! If you have any more please post them up when you get a chance. You wouldn't happen to know any specs on it?

I think I have a front shot as well. I do not know any specs. I heard that it had a 8 cylinder ( possibly a 390 in it.) From what I remember I think a chrome air cleaner can be seen through the scoop. I will have to look for the picture.

It does looks like those are green painted inserts in the rims. A V8 is interesting...a 390 seems strange. If you have a front view that would great to see also. Thanks again for replying back (and With a Picture)

Yes a 390 sounds strange and it is just what I think I remember a friend telling me. I found the front shot I just have to scan it. I have to run out the door right now.

Based on that pic I "think" it still has the 2.3T since it has only one exhaust pipe on the left side. Just guessing though...

Didn't notice that detail. But looking closer now it appears to have LX style tail lights as well. Also with the tan interior I have to wonder if it really is an SVO? Maybe just a collection of parts thrown on a GT / LX? Also makes the V8 more of a possibility / easier to believe.

If it was an original paint car I'd tend think more that it was a real SVO. Here is the Detroit Pace Car SVO which was also one of the SVO Engineer Lease Program cars that was converted for the Detroit Gran Prix.

I did notice the side molding but missed the fender flares. They really blend in well. The single exhaust is an interesting clue. Either it is a 2.3 T or maybe an earlier GT / V8 car with SVO parts added as mentioned.

Well I spent about an hour searching and finally came up with one photo. I thought I had a rear view too but no luck finding it. Definately tan leather interior and a sunroof. It looks like there is an extra air scoops in the right side of the front bumper. I can't wait to see what the 2nd front view picture that RedlordAmazon has of it.

    Default another ppg svo

The could have used the left over parts form this PPG SVO pace car. It was used in the 1986 Miller 200. I have seen it up close at the Jack Roush Museum.

Believe it or not, this car was red before it was green. "Ultrabrite Red". This is the part you might not want to hear. It was a 396 cubic inch.

According to David LaRoques svo book there were 8, of the 8 one was totaled one had the decals removed and the other six were auctioned off to dealers.

The car used in all the events leading up to the race and was scheduled to pace the race overheated prior to the race and ended up using Dave Domaines personal svo to pace the race and that is the one pictured. Blane Moon owned it for a long time and now Gerry Aires owns it. Dave Domain was one of the main engineers on the svo program.
