I'll tweak some of the stuff as I put pages up. But here's part one.

Wow that's one roached out console...
Looking forward to part 2! I have 3 old consoles that I can use to put in 4S-0130 if I can't find one in good shape so this will be helpful.

You buy e-brake seals separately from the coin tray panel at FMR for only 14.99. When I bought my car, one of the previous owners decided to use brass screws to re-install the e-brake seal, which made the coin tray unrestorable. I wound up ordering a replacement coin tray assembly from FMR, which they have in factory colors (most retailers only have them in black). The Canyon Red coin tray I bought was a perfect fit and color match. It's a bit more expensive to buy the entire assembly though.
I know that you're doing a restoration and will probably want to re-use what existing parts you have at hand, but I thought that I would share my experience with you.

Console is already restored.
This is the writeup.
I got the pad bumpers from FMR. I passed on their seal since it looked different on the web site.
I got the seal on Ebay for $10 plus shipping.
Yeah, I wanted to use as many of the original parts to keep the resto cost down and to work through some of the problems these dashes pose.

Thanks Mike - I always enjoy your write-ups!

Mike WTF???
Did you try a recovery program on your disk?
http://www.piriform.com/recuva
Here's the deal. I just took pictures as I was working. I didn't download them to the computer every time.
The only pictures missing are the ones for Part 2. Basically showing the disassembly and the damage as I found it. And pics of the console hull when it's cleaned.
I have pics of the subsequent parts. Pics of the console pad after being cleaned, the coin tray after cleaning, etc etc.
I did try to do a recovery on all my memory camera cards (Bad Copy Pro) and it found tons of stuff but NOTHING from that part of the resto.
I wonder if those pics were overwritten or maybe my wife swapped the card on me and it's on hers.

Really good info so far... Especially about the Wonder Putty - how handy is that, eh? Lots of good tips - it almost makes me wish that I could put more of it to use. I'll be restoring my console very soon, but I don't have the hurdles you had to jump over. It almost makes me feel a bit guilty.
One thing I will say - I've never been much on the Gray interiors, but the color is growing on me after looking at your pics!
Keep up the good work!
