Boy that is the way to "start with a good car" !! I rarely look at the "projects" or see the value in restoring a car - but that seems clean enough that you will be able to fix and have a nice car !

Last time I took on a similar project it was a White 86 and it wasn't that hard.
(of course I had all the parts -so that was part of why I considered it) And though it was an ok experience - could never get the "smell of mice" out of the car!

It's funny - what used to be based on condition, lack or rust , how many parts come with car (and the value of NOS if included) and "how much time and money" to fix TODAY STARTS with the question "does it smell"?

Hope to see more or hear about this car!

    Mark
P.S. Any chance that is Tommy's old 9L? Looks clean enough and has polished wheels.

Wow that is clean and nice looking! Wish some of my "projects" started out that nice!

    Good Luck with it!

What prompted someone to remove the engine of a car that clean and sell minus engine?

He had bought the car about 10 years ago as a basket case, and has been restoring it since then. He bought it with no engine. He dissambeled the car totally and built it back bit by bit. He has since gotten older and lost interest in finishing it. He currently has a silver 84 SVO that is in almost new condition and he just wants to maintain that one.

I am buying a used up 86 with a complete drivetrain which I will overhaul and transfer to this car.

I bought it in SC, from a gentleman named Brad Mobley who turned out to be a super fellow to deal with. I am not sure of owner before that, but it was in Columbia SC.

I guess that will work ! Seeing all you need is a complete motor and trans - I would have a hard time not just getting what you need. (Or having someone build you a complete motor - and you find a T5)

The time and effort saved, as well as the ability to concentrate on assembling (compared to disassembling, rebuilding , reinstalling and reselling (or storing the rest of the junk car) really does way on the job/decision.

Until last week (when I sold an NOS E6) I bet I had every part needed !
I enjoy cleaning the garage of SVO parts. If you want to trade for a finished car - let me know!

Okay kjdad, that is exactly what I want mine to look like. It just looks so clean under the hood and I love svo's in black especially with 5 spoke wheels.

Beeker, nope, although all it does is rest on the rail there, nothing but gravity to hold it but it hasn't moved yet...although I am thinking about putting the mount back on to just clean it up.

And thanks Sonic, I am planning on experimenting with my other cover, I'll post when I decide what I am going to do & when it's ready.

I stroked the motor to 2600 with an Esslinger billet crank, Crower 5.45" maxi-lite billet rods, and .15 over CP custom pistons.

Boport Stage 4 head with a Esslinger 2277 cam, with a ported intake by Boport that together flowed .240 cfm - IIRC.

    Custom header with external wastegate.

    80mm Throttle body.

    Front mount intercooler.

    GT35R turbo.

Stinger 4244 AEM stand alone computer system.

Joe Morgan did the build and we spent a couple of days on the dyno.

The 380 HP and 466 TQ was rear wheel - at 25 PSI. It was a new motor and I didn't push it (dumb me). I later found that the 6100 or 6200 RPM's I was running at the dyno was nothing. The motor had way more. Esslinger had told me that the motor was capable of spinning 10,000 RPM - that was not just talk either.

After the dyno tests, I put a 125 shot of Nitrous on and took it to the drag strip. It just spun the tires and I realized at that point, that I was going to change my SVO from a corner carver to a single purpose straight line machine if I kept this "More HP" thing up. I took the nitrous off and called it good. With bigger injectors and more tuning, it would have put out 200 more HP I'm sure.

Oh - and it had A/C as well.

Wish i had a pic of it finished because that would mean it was finished. lol.

I got the boport head on and got a few hundred miles on it and the aux shaft lost a few teeth so now i gotta tear it open to clean the pan and replace the oil pump so while thats the reason to get into it. But i got a new 50trim hybrid turbo and a bobs log. new ported and knife edged lower and upper. Bigger injectors and a nice front mount when it goes back together. Hoping to run with the big boys next summer.
