    Default 80' Zephyr "5.0" EFI Build/Swap

The Story: In 2009 I started building my 89 fox. In 2010 I put a rebuilt engine, refurbed rear, sub frames ect. In Mar the car was on the road. in Apr a dear ran out in front of me while I was traveling @ 65 MPH and totaled the car. This is the story of how the work that was put in to that car is transplanted in to a 1980 Mercury Zephyr:

    Thanks @Turbo-Box and @C7Z

I forgot to mention how i picked up the Zephyr. I was driving home one day and saw the car on the side of a house. I turned around and rang the door bell. This little old lady answered the door, I asked her if she was interested in selling the car, she said she never thought about it. We looked at the car, and exchanged #s. I called her a week later and she said she would sell it. She was the only owner bought it new with 13 miles on it and had 124xxx on it now. after sitting since sept 2010 it ran very well, the day after I bought it she passed inspection the second time with nothing more then a dose of guaranteed to pass..

Good find dude. Keep up the momentum with the swap. I've put over 130k on my 'mont and still haven't gotten around to it.

    Default Update 20110905

Ive been on and off on the car lately, trying to work on it as much as I can but a 3 month old makes that a little difficult. I took the engine out with the trans attached, bad Idea. I forgot to disconnect some stuff like the speedo from the trans, the engine ground on the back of the engine, and the starter wires. I also had some clearance issues with the garage door (being open) and the engine lift. the length of the engine, along with the trans gave us a few issues, but for the most part it wasn't that bad.

While taking it out with the trans attached, I noticed I forgot to drain the C-3 transmission while hoisting it, as you can see from it looking like I murdered someone under the car.

Cleaned out the engine bay so I could weld the rust spots, and paint it..

Right now I am working on taking the dash out.. Pictures of that and the Zephyr drive shaft compared to a fox DS coming soon!

If you guys have any questions or comments about the build, please ask.

That's probably my fault from reuploading to Flickr. I will try and edit the correct shortcut so the show up in the forum when I get home. In the mean time, you can view the pics that don't show up in the forum by clicking them, it just takes you to my flickr, where all the photos I have takin of the car can be viewed.

I see that your '80 has the oval hole for the harness grommet. On my '78 I had the make that hole which was a little bit of a PITA.
