    Dominators = 82-91

I have had discussions with Kevin Marti about the cars Summit Ford has sold. We have worked out him verifying VINS when I obtain them from an owner. His contract with Ford does not allow him to give me a list of all the VINS they sold. I have had contact with the owner of the dealership, he is trying to locate what records he has left.. I have located some other sources of information to narrow the field even further until then.

    Predators

Orlando Haywood has all of Tom Solomon's records, he has a Solomon serial number and VIN list, so ALL the Predators can be documented. But Orlando is restricted by his agreement with Tom Solomon on what information can be released.

The G.T.350 should be easy to get production data for. The G.T.350 Registry already has all of the VINs and breakdowns for hatchback and convertible, and engine and transmission. I don't know how much more we would want to get it broken down.

The Dominator would be almost impossible, since that was a package done by a specific dealer and not Ford. Ford is not going to have any records on which cars ended up being Dominators. Same goes for Predators.

The T2 data is a possibility. I am in contact with Marti Auto to see if the info from the Twister Special Registry can be verified and if there are any more or less T2s than is thought to have been produced (90).

The SSPs might be kind of tricky. Depends on if there is something in the data that Marti Auto got from Ford that indicates the vehicle was ordered as an SSP. I have been collecting 5.0L coupe VINs, and have been attaching six-digit DSOs when they have been verified. That data has been posted here: Consecutive 5.0L coupe VINs

My vote would be a breakdown on Canadian vs US production numbers.

I bet he would have the data by DSO so a DSO production breakdown from 79-86 for Capris and Mustangs would be amazing.

Not only would you know what cars went to Canada vs the US but you could see what parts of the world liked Capris and which liked Mustangs more.

Would like to get something going in the near future. Let's see if we all can come to an agreement on what we would like to have researched next.

    Suggestions so far....

    detailed Cobra breakdown
    Turbo GT/Turbo RS production*
    exterior paint color production*
    detailed G.T.350 breakdown
SSP production (specialservicemustang.net might work on this)
    interior trim color production*
    SVO color production
    DSO breakdown*
    sunroof production*

    *would cover Capri and Mustang

Any favorite(s) in the above list or any other suggestions?

I've always liked the sunroof over the t-top so it would be interesting to see production numbers especially how the sunroof compared to the t-top in the coupes.

It would cost good coin, but I think the next most obvious choice is to do color breakdowns. Color breakdowns are the most commonly (mis)quoted when it comes to finding cars, displaying cars, and selling cars... it would be nice to set the record straight here. I think it would be wise to do 8 cyl and 4cyl turbo cars only initially, then move onto standard 4cyl and v6/straight6 cars later.

    Thoughts?

Combining options (engine and paint color) for multiple model years and model lines is going to be prohibitively expensive. That is why we cut off T-Roof research by body code only, instead of by body and engine codes.

How about some info on Black Magics and Crimson Cats? It would be nice to know how many were built with each of the available engines and roofs.

Mick, the work that you have done so far has been absolutely fantastic, I'm sure everyone agrees, thanks for your efforts!

I've done heaps of research work here in Australia on the only, just over 15,000, 1969-1972 Mk.1 Ford Capri's assembled in Australia and so I'm not unfamiliar with number crunching and analyse of this type of information.

I'd like to see more info on the Black Magics too, but having just acquired mine and it having been built in San Jose, I see that a lot more work needs to be done on the San Jose built cars.

So, what we need is more photographs of VINs, VC labels and Buck Tags, along with all the options known on the cars, be they Capri's or Mustangs, to try and decypher these 'different' Buck Tags that have come out of the San Jose Assembly Plant! As a retired Analyst by profession, I'm ready to help assist with this cause. Cheers from Australia!

Getting Black Magic and Crimson Cat numbers done by engine and or roof option I think would be a good idea if the cost is reasonable.

My vote would be for turbo engine production by body for each year, and perhaps how many had an auto trans.

Yes, as soon as the ordering info for Marti Reports for Fairmonts is put up on the Website you can order them. I think Marti Reports for the '80-'86 Capri might be coming real soon.

Bringing this one back to the top. Now that the board has been upgraded and is stable, it is a good time to think about asking Marti Auto to do more production research for FEP.

Renew your old suggestions or make some new ones. I will start a poll later so we can have a vote. Will probably do a second poll of like the three, or four, or five top choices from the first poll, so we can really narrow it down to the most popular.

Something else to consider is that just because 'your choice' doesn't get picked this time around doesn't mean there will never be another chance. We did have a long period of inaction, but that shouldn't be a problem from here on out. If we can continue having successfully funded research projects to send to Marti Auto Works, we can hammer away at a number of areas of interest and be able to present a lot of really cool facts about these cars. So, keeping in mind what might be the the easiest to gain significant support for, and what the community as a whole would benefit the most from, would be a good idea. Although most of us don't have T-top coupes, a large number of us are fascinated by them as they seemed to be near-mythical. That helped drive the success of funding that project.

I'm a little biased towards learning about turbo cars, whether carbed, EFI, or both. Black Magics and Crimson Cats are probably a good second for me.

I would love to learn about the Recaro option. How many of each model got them and a breakdown of each color. I am also interested in the lower tutone option. I realize these are specific options, which would probably cost a bundle to research, so I am open to broader topics such as exterior or interior color breakdowns.

Just my thoughts, I'm in for whatever the majority decides.
    Cheers!

Svo colors was covered by the Ford certification report by year. No sense in wasting resources on that. I can post 84 details if needed.

Keep in mind that there are about two dozen Ford DSOs and about a dozen Mercury DSOs. Multiply that by eight years. Then if you want to do it by body code in the VIN, multiply it again by six (1979-82...four for Mustang, two for Capri) or four (1983-86...three for Mustang, one for Capri).

all of these requests are quite interesting and I would love to know more. I especially like the color-trim-body configurations with engine-transmission options.
We know the first foureyed foxbody VIN number and body-color-engine option, which is well documented, but, do we know the "last" foureyed mustang (1986) and what body configuration it was based on the actual build date? What was the actual last day of mustang production in 1986 for the foureyes? Marti should have this. I think it would be cool to know the last built of each of the body configurations, their respective VINs for the last foureyed Notchback Coupe (color/engine/trim), Convertible GT and LX (color/engine/trim), Hatchback (color/engine/trim). Would like to know the major options of these cars as well.
I believe the last production month in 1986 was September 1986, the 9th month of that year for the 1986 Mustangs. I have a personal hypothesis that states that FORD tried to complete the entire 1986 mustang line early by two weeks in September in order to make way for the newly "aero" designed 1987 body style production efforts. The few late build (September) mustang Marti reports that I have reviewed show the actual build date to be two weeks earlier than the scheduled build dates. again, just a theory, would love to know the facts. thanks for the opportunity to make a request. Any of these requests would be great to learn more about our beloved foureyed foxes.
