SSP? Red interior?

An 86 coupe has popped up for sale near me. Owner claims the car has the police interceptor package? Car has a console and red interior,not sure if he has documentation or not. I've never seen an SSP with a red interior.

In the database I have one from '84 and two from '86 that have red interior, all three of them were Texas DPS. A lot of the others that I have in the database I don't even know the interior color.

I know it's not a 4-eye but I've personally seen a 90 SSP with the red interior that was Texas DPS as well.

Red interiors in SSP cars is rather common. Particularly in Aero cars. There were more red interior 4 eyes than you would think also.

The US government ordered quite a few with red interior. Texas was also big on red interiors for DPS cars.

maybe PO changed the interior, the door tag will reveal the original color

I question the console more than the red interior. Red indeed was rather common.

I know of 9 '82 SSPs...
1 has an unknown interior trim color
8 have French Vanilla (V) interior trim

I know of 6 '83 SSPs...
1 has Wedgewood Blue (B) interior trim (1 NC SHP)
2 have Black (A) interior trim (1 ISP, 1 TX DPS)
3 have Walnut (E) interior trim (1 CSP, 1 FHP, 1 NC SHP)

I know of 13 '84 SSPs...
2 have Charcoal (A) interior trim (1 OSP, 1 TX DPS)
2 have Canyon Red (D) interior trim (2 TX DPS)
2 have Desert Tan (H) interior trim (1 CHP, 1 FHP)
3 have an unknown interior trim color (1 CHP, 2 OSP)
4 have Academy Blue (B) interior trim (2 OSP, 1 TX DPS)

I know of 25 '85 SSPs...
4 have Charcoal/Grey (A) interior trim (4 CHP)
4 have Sand Beige/Buckskin (Y) interior trim (3 CHP, 1 UHP)
8 have Regatta Blue/Blue (B) interior trim (3 KSP, 1 NHP, 4 OSP)
9 have an unknown interior trim color (1 CHP, 7 KSP, 1 OSP)

My 2 1982 SSP's are both original black cars with black interiors and are pre-CHP production cars. One built December of 1981 and the other April of 1982.

1982 CHP Mustang production started late May 1982, were consecutive VIN's and all were black & white cars with "French Vanilla" interior cars.

I only included '82 SSPs with DSO 720102.

The red interior is possible, but I have never seen a 4 eye SSP with a full console. It may have been installed by a past owner but who knows. The door tag, buck tag or build sheet is the only way to know for sure. If it doesn't have a 6 digit DSO it is not an SSP, I don't care what claims are made.
