That "1 of 15" production number, courtesy of Ford and Marti Auto, is for all "Mustang 3-door Sedan" (body code "15" in the VIN). It is probably a safe bet that not all of those 15 were also ordered with the Cobra Package option so the number of Cobras painted 2G is probably less than 15.

Hey Mick, I was wondering, was it possible to order a Ghia with Recaro seats? I found an '80-'81 Ghia hatchback recently, with Recaro seats, and it caught my attention. My gut tells me they weren't available in the Ghia, but thought I'd ask.

According to the Ford Product Facts Books, Recaros were optional in both bodies (coupe and hatchback) of both models ("base" and Ghia). Ghias seem to be relatively rare so finding one with the seemingly equally rare Recaro seating would be quite an accomplishment. I do not have any in the database.

Great to know!! Thank You. Wish i knew how many 2G's were the Cobra option

You can ask Marti Auto to research that.

Well I learned something reading your report. I assumed Cobra option meant the complete stripe package including the hood decal but you have 2 seperate lines, cobra package and hood decal. I have just the cobra option so it must have come minus the hood decal. Glad you put this up. I'm sure if your car is 1 of 15 and it includes all Mustangs the Cobra number would have to be less than half I would guess?? If you start a collection for how many Cobras in each color count me in! Congrats!!

In the '81 model year only, the Cobra Hood Graphics was a separate option from the Cobra Package option. In '79 and '80 it was included in the Cobra Package option. Also only in the '81 model year could you choose to delete the standard Cobra Tape Treatment. so you could essentially order the Cobra Package option in '81 without any of the Cobra graphics.

I would pitch in for the cobra count by color also. I ordered all my reports(deluxe marti, emlinger, door sticker, and new window sticker). I'm debating asking for him to research it further but afraid that may get to expensive.

Research by extertior paint color for the Cobra Option each year would be a good candidate.

Fox, I'm 99% positive '80 cobras could be ordered without the graphic also.

That is very interesting!! I did not know that.

So....If one were to order the Cobra package without the Tape treatment what exactly is "The Cobra Package" ? Did ALL Cobras have the trx package??? I have seen some with recaros and some without. So i guess i am saying what was different in the Cobra package from the everyday standard mustangs?? Thanks

would have still had the air dam, marchals, hood, spoiler. Were louvers standard on cobra package? According to how it reads in the foxbody mustang recognition guide it would seem as thought the trx suspension was standard but i'm not sure.

    Thanks 02pnygt

The louvers must have been an option as i have seen both with the defroster and the non-defrost w/ louvers

You're correct. Cobra Hood Graphics was optional in all three model years but Cobra Tape Treatment was only deletable in '81.

See negusm's 'site for the Product Facts Books for '79 through '81, and what was included or not available with the Cobra Pacakge. When you see items that are "not available" it means some of them cannot be ordered with the Cobra Package because they are already part of that package.

    TRX was standard
    louvers were optional

I have learned a few things about cobras today! Thanks everyone. I still want to know how many 2G's were built but that might have to wait until I have extra cash

once i get the stuff i ordered i think i may go ahead and contact Marti to see what it would take to atleast get the break down on colors for 81 because i'm very curious. If it not to expensive i may go ahead with it. I'll let you know. probably be a couple weeks before i get the other stuff back.

THAT would be awesome!! I just had something else come up that's going to cost me 2 Grand so my cashflow is very limited at the moment...Hope it's affordable! If not maybe we can all pitch in a little to get it?

I have an educated idea of what it would cost for all three years. It's not something I would post, though, until we get a quote from Marti Auto. I think we'll find it to be quite reasonable.
