    IIRC the 98 Cobra wheels were a 17X8 with a 5.72 backspacing or a 30mm offset.

I have run these on a couple of different Mustangs with the SN95 spindles up front.

The SN95 lower control arms will also affect wheel offsets. The control arms will help with alignment and tire wear, but you will have to adjust your offsets.

I currently run Cobra R's on my PC at 17X9 24mm offset with the stock Fox control arms.

If I install the SN95 control arms I would have to change to a 36mm offset to keep the wheels inside the fenders.

    Good Luck!

I have been somewhat absent as of late.. my occupation has me very busy throughout seeding / post seeding and harvest. This is what I drive for an average of 16 hours per day through May, June and July. 120' booms 335hp Cat C9 through hydraulic 4WD.

Fun stuff, even on days like this!!

That said, spraying has come to a halt this week and I finally have some time off to get the Capri into the shop.

I still can't believe how small the pre '85 brakes are!(or '87 can't remember when they changed) I have some clean up to do on the bits to be installed. They were installed on a '95 GT that as wrecked a week after. While they may be covered in surface rust from sitting, after a bit of elbow grease I'll have some serious brakes on the car. More pics as the week progresses

    Duane:

Is the door tag still on your Turbo RS? How about the Buck Tags? Think you might get lucky and find the Build Sheet? Can you post pics of any of that stuff? Yours is the ONLY Turbo RS and the only Capri period with a turbo engine that I have in the database for '81. Thanks.

Have you thought about getting a Marti Report for the car? I am showing only 163 P67Ts made in '81 but I don't know how accurate that is. Your VIN is in a batch of six consecutive P67Ts (635966 through 635971).

Looks like you've been collecting a lot of parts lately. Good luck on the build.

Do you think with the +20 offset that I'd be better off sticking with fox length LCA's then, to bring the hub face back in towards the center of the car? If I'm not mistaken, the SN95 LCA's are .75" longer than the ones on the '81 Capri/Mustang. Aren't the pre 83 k-member mounting points further inward compared to the later k-members?
Sorry I did not respond to this earlier. I thought I had this thread subcribed, but I did not.

Ok, as for the information given by Mathis (Mustang Performance Handbook 1&2) The pre 88 crossmembers are listed as 51.37" track width and the 88-93 is listed as 52.37". The crossmembers went through alot of suspension design changes from 79-93. The 90-93 crossmember is one of the best OEM crossmembers to go with due to the overall suspension design improvements.

Normally with the fox length control arms a 17X8 with a 20mm offset works well with the stock 4 lug wheels. When you swap out to 5 lug SN95 spindles the offsets change again due to the track width increase.

If you were to add the SN95 control arms you would need to increase the offset to keep the wheel under the fender. .75" is @ 19mm. The SN95 control arms will improve your handling, alignment, and possible tire wear but you will need to push your offset out to @ 40mm.

I believe Discount Tire sells the TSW wheels. You might consider ordering a pair and test fitting them without tires just to see how things look. You should be fine with the 20mm offset. The other option if you feel the wheels are tucked in a bit too much is to use a small (key word small) hubcentric spacer to push the wheel out. Anything under 1/4" should be fine and up to 1/2" can be safe. Just double check your thread engagement on your lug nuts. If you go past 1/4" I usually recommend you upgrade your lug nuts to longer lengths to improve total thread contact.

    Good Luck!

I just reread your last couple of posts. You are upgrading to 5 lugs. Due to the SN95 spindles widening the front track width you will need more offset.

You are using the 94/95 spindles right!

I have run the 98 Cobra 17X8 with a similiar set up as yours and they worked pretty well. The offset is 30mm IIRC. Unfortunately most of my setups lately have been 9" wide wheels so I am better versed in those right now.

I know on my PC with the 94/95 spindles, fox control arms, and a SVO crossmember I am running Cobra R's with a 24mm offset up front. To run a 17X9 with the SN95 lower control arms would require a 36mm offset to fit.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Unfortunately there's not much 'Turbo' left in the old girl. The previous owner grenaded that engine and went V8 for drag racing. If it were still in it's original state (even not running) I would consider restoring it as a 4 cyl Turbo, but as it is I have a running V8 car that sounds great and is lots of fun to drive. Thus it stays V8

I'm not suggesting or trying to persuade you to put a 2.3T back in the car. I'm just curious how many of those P67Ts were actually made.

Thanks for posting the door tag and buck tag. I have filled in the missing data in the database.

Glad to post it.. I was saying 'unfortunately' because I kinda wish it were a little more original. I'm doing what I can to tastfully restore yet also make a good car out of it. The 2.3's are as scarce as hen's teeth up here, let alone a turbo'd version.

So I made some progress today.

I pulled the front spindles and struts.

I also scored a few goodies from the pick-a-part this afternoon.

    HALO'S!!

and post Duplicolor Vinyl and Cloth paint.

I gambled a bit.. I'm going to try to make these work as best I can. Crown Vic. HPP rims that need 225/50R16 on the front and 245/45R16 on the back instead of the 225/60R16 that came with the rims.

I also installed the Autometer Tach today.. 3904 Sport-Comp 5" with memory and shift light.

The shafts on the halo headrest are about a 1/16" wider and are missing the center groove.
The seats are from my other Capri..

Just an FYI, but if you pop the plastic sleeve out of the

    Indeed they do!!

but what I would really like is a nice clean set of the original seats w/ halo's added.

    and a better camera..

Struts, springs and spindles are all out of the car, but I think that I'm going to need a bit of heat to get the LCA bolts out. Unless there's a way to press the SN95 ball joints into these arms w/o removing the control arms from the car??

** get yourself a ball joint press, dummy!!?? **

    ^^ answered my own question..

I found it easier to use the ball joint press while the control arms are on the car. More leverage.

yeah, that worked well.. SN95 ball joints are now installed. Need some new struts though. I have a set of the fox ones that were on the car and a set from the SN95 but one of each is shot. The fox struts are shorter (better for lowering) so I'll just use washers to make up for the narrower SN95 spindle.

so I finished up the SN95 conversion and eagerly tossed the HPP wheels onto the car. They look great!!

    except..

they are indeed too wide for the wheel openings. I thought perhaps w/ the '81 control arms the track would be narrow enough to fit them. Damn.

    The Tach looks great though!!

Grrrrrrr!! I had some used 225/50R16 Toyo's popped on the HPP wheels. They cleared the fender and looked real nice. I then finished installing the brakes and bled them. When going to install the wheels with the calipers on I realize that the HPP wheels need about a 3/8 - 1/2 inch spacer to clear the caliper. This will push them out beyond the fender again.. I can't win with these things!!? Not meant to be.. sigh. I guess it's back to the Torq Thrusts 17 x 8 at +25mm and 17 x 9.5 with +28mm backspacing. These dimensions should work, correct?
