Its sitting outside the garage right now. The new engine is nearly done, waiting on the last couple things to show up. New transmission and converter are here. I've got the frankenwagon in the garage now getting it tore down, and ready to jamb it before pulling it outside so I can get this one going, finally, been way too long.

So just to give an update of sort on this, I did get the engine built, and installed, only to find that the dipstick wouldn't go into the pan because of the headers, I tried a lot of things except banging a huge dent in the header tube which I wouldn't do. I let the car sit for awhile because I was pretty pissed, but did pull the engine back out and am now in the process of building a milder 331. I'm hoping to have that running sometime in September, barring any other delays which seem to be a regular occurrence with this car.

Between the FailTD and yours, these cars are really growing on me, but they're not easy to find. A SEFI conversion like yours and a 5spd would be fun.

Right, if this transmission ****s the bed a 5 speed will be going back in it.

It's the first part of November, and it's still not running, my timeline objectives are chronic failures.
The engine and trans are in, I've got the junkyard V6 Mustang fuel lines installed. Just have to finish up trans lines to trans cooler, install headers, front dress and a few other odds and ends, shooting for spring 2022 to have it going. Should be able to make that.

I've been working on my car since 2017 and its about 20% complete. Sounds like we work at about the same speed.

I'm my own worst enemy, havent made any progress on the LTD in the last couple weeks, but did swap heads on my 90LX, get new tires and wheels mounted on my '86 FHP car, run the buffer around on the 90, and put a new power window in the '05 sport trac, working on everything but the LTD.

As soon as you have two project cars down for serious mods. Things seem to grind to a halt as far as progress goes.

Almost mid-December and still not running, although the to do list is getting shorter.
Turned the key on to see if I had any fuel leaks and got no fuel pressure, pump isn't running, but is getting voltage. I'd had ethanol free gas in it, and stabil added just to be sure, but could just be a random failure. Working on getting dash back together after new speedo install, securing trans cooler lines and other miscellaneous garbage things that seem to take a lot of time.

It runs, been running for a little over a week, haven't driven it anywhere other than out of the garage. Still have a few things to wrap up on it before I take it for a test drive. Been a long trek to get to this point, some self-inflicted, some just circumstantial, but it's finally running after way too long.

DOH!!! Thanks for the heads up, got it fixed.
Been out working on that turd getting the trans back in it, after replacing the rear main seal, and redoing the trans cooler lines.
I've seen that crud like in your valve covers often, and most of the time the owner was a regular user of pennzoil, or quaker state oils, that had some paraffins in it.

Back when I used to pull apart engines for a summer job, the engines that were the worst as far as carbon buildup was concerned were the ones with the thermostat removed.

It's been running for a bit now, drove it to work today. Had to put a new battery in it of course, old one gave up the ghost after sitting for so long. MSD also shat the bed, so running factory ignition, with MSD coil. Speedometer cable locked up after a couple days, so replaced that, the speed sensor, and driven gear all at once so hopefully won't have an issue with any of that in the future.
Having to retailor shift points, and all for the transmission because this converter seems tighter than the old one behind that 302. With the 331 it's quite sporty, don't have to get into too hard to burn the tires off. Hopefully the drag radials will hold up when it comes track time.

Took this turd to the track last night, had issues with the mass air meter. I had put a slot meter with boom tube on here, and it just wasn't working right, wasn't apparent on the street because all it was doing was spinning the tires. It did manage a best of 1.63 60 ft. using the Hoosier autocross 275/40-17 tires on the mopar police car wheels. Best time was a 7.88@84MPH, down from where it should be. I was anticipating a 7.5X@89-90. I'll put my Pro-M 92MM on for the next track outing.

This has been running for a year or so, when I first got it in the car I had issues with my timing light, didn't realize this at first, had heard pinging a couple times, but never at WOT, and always let out of it when it happened. Never was happy with how the car ran, something seemed off with it, so decided to pull it down to check heads, and swap a suspect lifter, have linkbar rollers in it, so have to pull the head to get lifters out. Got the D/S head off and noticed a piston had a little piece out of it, not real uncommon with early dual valve relief pistons, but still sucks. Luckily the cylinder is undamaged, so can just clean and reuse block with new pistons, will most likely have get crank rebalanced if weights are very different.
So decided to pull the engine, and while it was out to swap to T5, figured I'd sell the complete 4R70W set up with controller to at least get some money back out of the auto setup. I've already had everything for the swap, as had been thinking I'd do it in the future, just not this soon. My son has a 331 on the stand with AFR 195 heads, so I'm getting that, and he'll get this one to go into his capri, and I'm giving him my ported TW heads, they're more suited for his set up than the AFRs. Also going to get a set of BBK or Dougs longtubes to put on this and sell the MAC 1 3/4" longtubes as I don't like how low they hang.
Figured I'd update what's going on with this as it's been awhile.

No, it's all out, but haven't got the controller out yet, or swapped yoke on the driveshaft, will make that happen this week.
