    Default LTD/Marquis assembly plant(s)?

    Chicago Assembly (VIN code "G") ... was that the only plant where the LTD and Marquis (more specifically the LX and LTS, respectively) were produced, or were there others?

    Default finding pieces for the puzzle

    My guess most if not all of the LX/LTS are G's than A's.
    because Ford did not want to supply unique parts to 2 plants.
    Hard to say for sure without seeing all 3200+ VINs..

    I have that link bookmarked, and use it often. Don't know why I did not think this time of drilling down to each plant's wiki to see their product lines. Thanks for the reminder.

    I now see the wiki for Atlanta Assembly says LTD/Marquis, and the wikis for LTD and Marquis say Atlanta. I do have to question the accuracy and completeness of some of those wikis, though, as I did just find one T'bird VIN on ebay with an Atlanta VIN, and the Atlanta wiki doesn't show Thunderbird. I also just had to update the (Fox) Capri and Mustang wikis to include San Jose Assembly, and the main 'Factories' wiki to include Capri in San Jose's recent products.

    I'm in the proccess of compiling a complete list of (Fox) LTD/Marquis VINs from Chicago Assembly. Will do the same for Atlanta Assembly, and see if the 5.0L engine was at both or just Chicago. Will be doing the same for the Thunderbird/Cougar at their respective assembly plants, and the 2.3T engine.

    Thanks for your help.

    No way one source of info will ever come near to cover it all. Too complex.
    Take Wixom Assy. I live about 2 miles from it.
    The only fox chassis i remember out of there was Continental and Mark VII.
    Wiki lists Tbird 58-07 like it was there all that time. Oh well.
    Wiki is better than nothing.

    Wiki is probably where I got Wixom from for T'bird/Cougar. Because I haven't found a Wixom VIN yet, only Atlanta and Lorain.

    Raw list of VINs is showing 9,000! '85 P39Ms (Fox LTD 5.0L) produced at Chicago Assembly.

    Still working on the numbers but the raw data shows roughly 3,700 more P39s made at the Chicago plant with the 5.0L engine than with the 2.3L engine. I'm working on the Chicago P40 (wagon) numbers now.

    Where does that data come from?

    You could actually buy an 85 LTD with a four cylinder engine?

    wow, those are some very low number lts. How many were made in Canada? Did they ever make any 302 wagons in 84-86? Thank you for sharing

    They weren't made in Canada, they were just sold there. Supposedly the LTS wasn't available in the US so all 135 of the Chicago-built '85s would have been sold in Canada, with a Canada DSO.

    I believe the wagon only came with a V6 in all years but I haven't confirmed that yet.

    I would had to have to seen the DSO to believe it was originally ordered/sold in the states.

    Did not know this until I started going through the '84 VINs ... some 2.3L engines in Chicago-built LTD sedans were fueled with LPG (engine code "6"). Very interesting.

    I got a VIN verification thing on my old LX (which Marz now owns) and I seem to recall it was built in Lorain, OH.

    Deep in my heaps of '82 Ford info I have the Cougar 2.3 "Alternative Fuel" propane car service manual. Apparently LPG has been used in some 2.3/Fox and 2.3/Ranger setups for a while.

    I'm showing approximately 500 2.3 LPG sedans produced at Chicago for '84. It was apparently the last year for that option in the LTD. (None for '85, at Chicago anyway).

    I'm gathering lists of VIN and checking them for "records". Any VINs with records are kept, the rest are discarded. Then I database the VINs and break them down by body code (6th & 7th characters), engine code (8th), year (10th), and assembly plant (11th).

    OK, so apparently there were two 3.8L V6 engine codes in '84, both available in the sedan and wagon.

    3 = EFI
    C = 2V

    That makes five different engines/codes (so far) for the '84 LTD.
