Good info, thanks. That's pretty much what mine did too. It'd also work intermittently. I was able to source what I think is a red one from Rock Auto. Any idea what the electrical connector for that 3 inHg vacuum switch looks like? Maybe I can find that switch somewhere?

    Default shift light

Don't mean to butt in, but would you guys happen to know if the shift light was operational with 4 speed cars, or if there is a top gear sensor for the SROD?

That's actually a good question, because if they are, then that would increase my chances of finding that vacuum switch for the shift light. It's darn near impossible to find.

Shift light? We don't need no stinkin shift light. Just twist the ears on that sucker till the oil pressure drops then shift!

My 84 has a space for it in the dashboard. However when I had my dash apart there was no wiring for it. I figured it was for gas mileage and smog restrictions in certain states. I think it was not always applied to all cars.

The shift light had nothing to do with emissions regs, it was a way to improve the car's EPA fuel economy
rating, which was a federal thing.

The one in my 84 GT was never installed at the factory either.

I primarily want to get mine working because it's a feature that my car came with and I'd like for it to work. I think it's kinda cool, really.

Does anyone have a picture of the vacuum sensor/switch that is supposed to be on the back of the driver's side strut tower? Mine is missing. Also, would anyone know where I could find another?

I wonder if service managers got tired of customers coming in and complaining about the shift light, so they disabled the feature on all new cars that came onto the lot?

It looks like mine had two vacuum switches/sensors. I have two connectors sitting there with nothing attached. Name: 20161231_091035.jpg

Does anyone know that that two terminal connector goes to in the previous pic? I currently have a black vacuum switch connected to it.

I was able to find the dual vacuum switch assembly and have my three terminal connector hooked up to it. My Shift light works now!

Where did you find the dual vacuum switch? Mine is bad and like you, if it's factory I want it to work as designed.

Another member here had one laying around. I put in a WTB thread about it in the classified section.

Any clue what the two terminal connector is for behind my driver's side strut tower?
