Thread: 86 GT

    Default 86 GT

I have a 66 and 67 Mustang, but never ventured into anything later than that. Recently saw an 86 GT for sale in the area, needs some work but nothing I can't handle. Put up a website to track it with some information on it. The interior was stripped, but included, and the drivetrain is solid- a 91 Roller Motor, T-5 w/new clutch and 355 tracloc. The price was right so I jumped in. Check it out.

I have an extra 87-93 ebrake handle I may use, the brakes need to be gone through so as long as I am at it....

Well, the rear drivers side pan is welded up and POR15'd and now I am starting on the toeboard area. These are the two big repair areas. It is such a tough area to access I am glad to be close to being ready to finish it up.

Still looking for a dash pad for the 86, found a nice pair of grey doorpanels and just paid for a set of black armrests and seatbelts from joebuckskin.

So I am back for round two. Brakes, front suspension, steering, motor, it all needs a refresh after sitting for many years. Still rolled over when I replaced the harmonic balancer. Also found a set of 85/86 halos locally to go with the console delete kit.

Removed front suspension, a arms rebuilt with new prothane bushings & moog ball joints, lowering springs, aluminum rack bushings, new manual steering shaft, bumpsteer kit, etc.

Finally, stock seats! Need cleaning up but in good shape.

Plenty of room in the garage since I cleaned it out last month.

    Front end re-installed this weekend

    Lowering Springs 1.5”
    Prothane A arm bushings
    New Ball joints
    Gabriel shocks
    MM bumpsteer kit
    MM Aluminum rack bushings kit
    Prothane Sway bar bushings

The MM front spring installation tool is some of the best $ I ever spent.

It was a chore getting the A arm bolts off on the passenger side, one sleeves was fused to the bolt and had to be cut.

More progress. added Max Motorsports front braided lines. Was able to bleed the fronts after replacing the steel hard lines, but now the back drums aren’t getting fluid. At first I thought it was the wheel cylinders, which I swapped out, but no luck. So.... I have to swap out the rear brake lines and the rubber hose and see what happens. Fun!
