I have somewhere between 350-400 whp thru a 4 speed and I was wondering what drag radials you guys are using that get you thru a full season. I was thinking Hoosier QTP but keep hearing they only last 40 times down the track. Thats what I heard Im not saying its Gospel. Let me know what you guys recommend. Thanks Scott!
Are you looking for a radial? The QTP's are bias plys. I haven't tried the QTP's myself but my friend who has used both say they stick better than M/T's, but he admits they do wear faster. How much faster I don't know. I started with the M/T drag radials and run 149 passes on a set of them. I then switched to the bias ply M/T et streets and put 202 passes on a set of them. I have another set of the same tires on now that already have 82 passes on them and still have plenty of life.
What size are you running? Do you like the way they hook with a manual trans? Thanks!
The radials were 255/60/15's and the bias plys are 27x10.5-15. I can't say I saw a lot of difference in the hook between the two, but the bias plys are easier on drivetrain parts so that's a plus for them, especially true with a stick. The sidewalls absorb some of the initial shock of launching. I can see the wrinkle effect in my launch pictures with the bias plys. You don't get that with the radials. I have around the HP you are talking about in a car that weighs 3000 lb with driver. My best 60's with either of those tires were 1.6's when they actually prep the track which is infrequently where I race. Only because my track is known for poor hook was I looking to go bigger on the tires. People seem to be hooking fine with those tires at other tracks.
Another factor that affected my launches is that I only have 7 inch wide wheels. I believe either of those tires would work a lot better on 8 inchers.
I have 8 inch wide wheels so I will be good there but I was going to go 235-50-15 because of my crappy rear gear of 3.55. I might look at the bias ply then.
Btw the car right now has 26-50-15 slicks on it, maybe I will go with those.
Those are Mt too.
I'm sorry, those are MT 26-10-15. I may go with these.
Anyone?
