This Fairmont is listed at Ebay as a 1979:

No VIN is given. How would you know its a '79? I though all 78-81 FZs had hood ornaments. This car does not. I know that is a minor thing but thats how Ive always done a quick ID of an early FZ.

Its been pointed out to me that 78-80 have four bolts to hold on the fender in the engine bay. That one has four so it looks like a 79 to me. Oh and my 81 doesn't have a hood ornament.
The hood ornament was an option for 78 79 and maybe 1980. But was not a factory option from 1981 (or so) and up.
The cowl grills on the 78 and 79's did not have the windshield washer nozzle on it. Instead they had them on in the windshield wiper arms. This car seems to have them on in the wiper arms.

He had a blue on blue 2dr boxtop that was just as clean. I was bidding on it and did not post a FYI ad on here because I was that serious about it. Someone ended up hitting the buy it now. So much for me trying to get it cheaper...Oh well.

How do you have a car like that with only 15,000 miles on it?
And his description says "No reserve" but it says reserve not met, WTF???
And if you really want the vin#, why not ask him for it?

That looks like a nice version of my buddy's 79 Zephyr ES.

I agree that this car is most likely a 1979. This 1980 Zephyr facts sheet shows the 'stand up hood ornament' as standard equipment:

The '78s had the clear front turn signal lenses. '79s and later had amber.
If the intrument bezel and cluster hasn't been changed, it's an '80 and earlier since they went to rectangular turn signal indicators and that stupid pictograph crap from '81-'83.
My guess is whomever ordered this car was going for bare bones judging from the simpler window trim, lack of passenger side mirror, plain interior, non-adjustible (from the inside) driver side exterior mirror, and dog dish hub caps. Maybe had the hood ornament deleted for extra bucks.

Distance between the front bumper bricks says it's a '78 or '79. The
amber turn signal lenses say it isn't a '78, unless they changed 'em out.
(My '79 now has the clear lenses...) ;)

Fleet order F/Z cars came standard with "trim delete" which knocked off fancy hubcaps for the dog dishes, no hood ornament, and a bunch of other trim gone.
A version of the "trim delete" package also was used on the ES/ESS cars.
Somewhere I have a fleet ordering dealer notebook...if I ever see my house again I'll look it up.
Actually, someone in Western NY state with a scanner and some time should just borrow all my F/Z stuff and put it on the web.
