Anyone have any ideas on what to keep an eye out for at the junkyard tomorrow? Picking up the LTD LX tomorrow and heading to the three junkyards in the area while we're out, haha.

Anything that might help me out with this car that you guys have found in junkyards, give a shout, thanks!

Double hump crossmember if you plan on dual exhaust. Manual trans V8 Aero Mustangs if you plan on converting to 5 spd. 8.8 rear from an '86-'93 V8 Mustang if you plan on going over 200 HP. Ex-cop/taxi LTDs if you like to find a 140 MPH Calibration Certified Speedo, the ex-cop LTDs have steel battery trays and hold down parts - allows the use of a larger battery (24F).

Happy Hunting!

I am selling this LTD LX. One thing that I was planning to do is to install a set of Quadra Shocks (which I already have), but then got a set of early Mustang GT Koni shocks from one of the guys selling stuff in Carlisle, PA, for free (since I helped him sell a lot of Koni Red Shocks: for those who remember the suddenly plentiful and inexpensive rear Koni Red shocks that I located - for 1980-88 T-Birds/Cougars that also fit the Mark VII, back in 2002 or 2003 - big thread on fordvschevy back then).
Anyway, the Koni shocks on the car are the type that bolts directly (90 degree) to the axle, not the type that uses the adaptor brackets that the bigger Fox cars and later Mustang 5.0's had. Anyway, this kind of direct mounting precludes the use of the quadra shocks (due to possible binding), but one could fit the adaptor bracket to the axle - and machine the Koni shocks' lower mounting bushing (without cutting into the pressurized shock body!!!) to fit the adaptor bracket.

I might install the quadra shocks on my 89 LSC or might sell them.

Car already has a group 24F battery - but does need a new battery tray/holddown.

Would recommend going one step up (what I had planned):

87-93 5.0 spindles, but using 84-92 Mark VII brake rotors and calipers (which bold to the 87-93 Mustang spindles) - requires switch to 5 lug wheels. For rear to get 5 lugs, would need two Ranger rear axle shafts that have the correct length (from one side!! left/right, I don't remember).

Driver side RANGER (make sure it's not the 4.0 liter eng.), PASS side Aerostar van as I recall

Nothing wrong with getting 4.0L Ranger axles. That just means it'll have 10" drums instead of 9".

Since LTD LX's had 10" drums. May as well stick with the theme, eh? Well unless he decides to go disc rear.

Heh..yeah. What I meant was the 4.0L has the same axles (same length, same 5-lug pattern) as any other Ranger engine. The 4.0L has an 8.8" rear and 10" drum brakes though.
