Of all the cars that I have looked at all of them are colum shift bench seat. Mine is floor shift and bucket seats. Does anybody know if that is a rare oddity?

I don't know how unusual it is but when I bought my Futura new in December 1978, among the reasons I got the 4 cylinder (big mistake) was bucket seats were standard with a 4 but optional at extra cost for a 6 or 8 cylinder. Also, the 4 cylinder had a real four speed transmission with a floor shift instead of the overdrive three-on-the-tree that came with the sixes and eights. I don't think Ford ever considered Fairmonts to be "sporty" cars so most of them probably came with bench seats and column shifts.

The floor shifters show up from time to time. I think if the car was equipped with a manual, it was usually mounted on the floor. I've never run across a column shifted manual trans FZ - 'course, I've only seen a fraction of the total production run of FZs in the wrecking yard! LOL

I don't recall any I6 or V8 FZ getting overdrive transmissions but fortunately for us, the Fox V8 Mustangs did!

What I do find rare is the floor mounted shifter (manual or A/T) FZ with a console!

Oh, That reminds me; my '83 is a column (A/T) shift car with bucket seats. My ol' ex-cop Fairmont was a/t, column shift, and bucket seat as well.

Had one:D I paid $600 for that console, the 83 Futura came with it though. Had an AT, I haven't seen a stick behind a 200.

Yes, I kept the console, no, its not for sale.

My 80 Futura had a floorshifter as well (2.3/AT). I cant remember if it had buckets or not (seems like it was a bench seat with bucket backs, cant swear to it though).

My 1978 Fairmont was factory equipped with 3.3L (200ci) I-6, floor shifted 3-speed manual transmission, and bench seat. It was the 3-speed 'toploader' trans (type 3.03/RAN). The I-6 with manual trans were quite rare.

True! I've found more Fox Mustangs with the I6 with manual trans than FZs. I have a bell from a '79 and one from an '81. The one from the '81 has the correct bolt pattern for a T-5.

Oh, I found a console in an '81 Granada of all places. I didn't complain and grabbed it. I think that car had the wider LTD style separate seats.

Some more useless information to hijack the thread further... Sorry!
