View Full Version : LTD LX damaged during shipping.
This week I bought the Frink LTD LX and had it shipped up from so-cal to nor-cal. The car is great but check out what the truck driver did...
He told me he hit a "big bump" and the car came loose....:mad:

File a claim on his cargo insurance, he should have probably at least a $500K policy.

Was he jumping railroad tracks? Hopefully you can get it covered under their insurance.

Open trailer. It would not have been too big of a deal if it was just the light, but the damaged body panel really does suck:(.

i think you should invite him for dinner and drinks to sort out the whole problem like adults,ya know.
(earlier in the day ,you made a trip to home depot for a shovel, rope, duct tape and a bag of lye)
after a few too many drinks(youve had severely watered down booze),you suggest a calm drive in the forest to talk it over near a remote location.
google maps for nor cal locations that arent usually visited by;oh i dont know, cadaver sniffing dogs.
do what you need to,just a suggestion in case of inability to find resolution in the normal avenues of dispute.;)
and im hiding in an undisclosed place in case this follows through.just saying.

I find more and more people these days who deserve these "dinner dates"....just sayin' :)

Bummer. Of course he destroyed the rare as hen's teeth LX-only tail light (although I'm pretty sure the passenger side light is not original anyway). Like frink said, time for some better looking lights!
I'd definitely be filing a claim.

I went to the junk yard this morning. Found 2 Marquis and 1 LTD. all of them had the left taillight missing. (Weird) So I bought a right taillight from a Marquis thinking I should be albe to find a left one sometime:roll:

What, did he jump the bay bridge? looks like the car was standing on its trunk to get jump marks like that.

He claims it was the grapevine... He didn't chain the car down right and it came loose. I'm happy it didn't fall off the truck. Under the car has some thin sheet metal rips where it looks like he had it chained dwon at one point. Less then qualified transport driver for sure. :(

Congrats on buying the LTD LX! Sorry about the damage. I was extremely tempted to buy the car but with 9 cars already, I would be in a world of hurt.
Enjoy!

$1,400 est. to fix... oh my!
1400? Jesus Christ! WTF are they going to repace... the whole back of the car?
Find all the parts yourself and just have them fill the damage in on the 1/4 panel and repaint. Have the shipping company pay for it.
Personally bring how you were in Cali... I'd have flown down and driven the car back. I know the car Phil sold ya... and it'd have not had an issue with being driven that far.

Thats the plan.

I would have but the cost of the flight and fuel + extra time woudl have cost way more then shipping. Also, it needed a water pump. I love the car.

Yeah $1400 doesn't sound unreasonable at all. Not to mention the fact that they'd NEVER be able to find an exact replacement tail light for the one that got broken. Here's hoping you can get it fixed cheaper.

I got another estimate today. Yep you guessed it $1,400. Then the best part. I stopped by a third place and the guy wouldn't even give me an estimate and all but called the car a pile of junk. The first question from all the body shop people... Is this an insurance job or out of pocket? Shouldn't the estimates be the same? Thats why everyones insurance rates are out control. Thieves.
Oh, and the trucking company FIRED the driver that did this.

Been there, done that. I got the same "why are you fixing this?" attitude from a lot of shops when my car got rear ended. Also got the same question regarding insurance. Basically they would quote the insurance co a bigger price in most cases.
All better...:p
