ok i now i've heard of people putting 460's in foxbody's but how hard is it. I have a 79 fairmont with a V8 now but it has to many problems so i'm thinking of going big.

I think I just saw a post about the swap on 460ford.com or big block fox, I'll see if I can find it.

Can you get away with that in california? Or is this a race only car?

easy swap. mounts, pan, headers, god rad, good electric fan, and an 8.8 . plug access is easy and you can even keep power brakes.

Ive seen a BBF under a stock capri hood, it used a tubular k member though and different mounts. If you use the tall valve covers, you wont be able to run a brake booster.

wrong. i used the tall ford motorsport aluminum covers. just use a small dia 87-93 booster. this is the only pic i have left of the car but see the booster?

I would suggest using motor plates. Readily available and you can position the engine for better weight transfer.

Is there a readily available manual transmission to put behind a 460 or is auto the only affordable way to go?

ok i got a couple Q's for ya.
does the smaller booster take any braking power away? would manual be better?
has anyone done a swap like this and drove it on the street? maybe not a daily but at least once a week. I hear its a little nose heavy and curious to how it handles.
thanks for any input

I'm pretty sure that you can get swap bellhousings to put a TKO behind a big block.

The smaller diameter booster will work fine. It'll just feel like the brakes on a 87-93 Mustang.

It will be a lil' nose heavy. Should win every burnout contest you enter though!

ok guys I'm looking around at kits for the swap and so far its around 900 does anyone know somewhere cheaper? This was going to be my cheaper way of getting a motor in the car but its not look that way lol. and is 500 a good price for a rebuilt 460 with some head work w/o carb?

With the plates he can set the motor back. And they are not that expensive.

would i have to cut anything out of my firewall tranny tunnel to make it fit?

Setting the motor back like that may cause interference between the rack and the pan. The pan on my 5.0 is right up against the tubes on the rack on mine already.

My Uncle has a TKO behind his 427 powered 1955 Thunderbird. He uses a toploader bellhousing and a hydraulic clutch to make it work. You should be able to use a similar setup in terms of bellhousing and trans with a 460.

Use a rear sump pan.

i did a custom mount job to put one in a 79 fairmount with a tubelar kmember move it back and down 2 inches from the normal swap mounts and with a performer intake it fit under the stock hood with a dual snorkel air cleaner (I did butcher the kmember to get it where i wanted it though)

Yes it can be done, no, I don't recommend it. You can do far better for far less doing a worked over 351W.
