I may have a lead on an '88 TC, but the seller mentions it has an intermitant issue with the cooling fan, how hard are these to replace/repair..just looking for some info before I decide on it.

Shouldn't be hard to replace the fan...if the fan is the problem. Cause there is the fan...the fan circuit(relay in the relay box which is a box consisting of 4 other MAJOR relays...ok 2 major relays), and then there is the temp sensor, which is also the engine and ECU/s main sensor.

If it's not the fan, how difficult is it to replace/find the relays, are we talkin ebay scouring, or are the readily available?

If you have soldering skills you can replace the relay since I think its a somewhat standard Bosch relay. Otherwise you can find the "IRCM" as its known on Ebay and on other sites that deal with turbo 2.3 cars.

Bypass the relay to the main cooling fan and put your own relay module with a thermostat. I've done this on both TC's Ive had

mine was wire into the fog light switch and thermostat.

My SVO had the same problem and after replacing the stock relay, didn't work. Then I rewired with my own relay, aftermarket, it didn't work. I then replaced the temp sensor and it still didn't work. I then pulled the intake manifold off and looked at the location of the temp sensor and noticed it was completely filled with corrosion and was not even getting water to it. So cleaned it up and everything works fine.

Moral of the story is keep your coolant in your radiator mixed correctly:)

yeah.. no TC for me :(
Someone came by an hour before I was to go look at it & bought it rt then.
On the plus side, I am picking up a driveable '79 F-250 today with a 460/C6 in it..so it's not a total loss. :pimp:
