I may run 15 inch Draglights or Rodlights on my 86 & wonder about sizes.
I know I want to run 15X5s up front & maybe 8s in the rear. Any pics or input on tire sizes.
Im just going for the look & do not want to run DRs in the rear.

are you staying 4 lug?.. we run 15 x 3 1/2" up front but 15 x 5 fits great too. on the back we took off the quad shocks and run 15x8" with 5 1/2 Back spacing. and a 275-50r15 bfg street radials not drag radials. if you run the 4 1/2 " back spacing you will have to roll or trim the fender lips for clearance. my sons friend has 276-60 15's on his 5 1/2 Back space draglites on his 87 but they do seem to scrape and rub a bit since they are so tall... hope this helps a little.. on my sons 87 he is running 18X10 FR500's on the rear with 275-40x18's but we heavily massaged the inner fenders took of the quad shocks and trimmed his fender lips and they don't hit.. but it was a bit of work....roy

I run 15X4 up Front with 165R15 tires and 15X8 with 5 1/2 back spacing in the back 275/60/15 tires, but would suggest running 275/50/15 tires in the back if you don't want to roll the fender lips and remove the quad shocks.

I have 6.5bs in the back. Its a 27x11.5x15 Hoosier QTP. It required rolling the fender and beating in the inner fender well. I still need to roll the fenders some more because it rubs around corners.

I had the 5.5 BS ones on there first, and the tires did rub badly on the inside. I beat the inner fenders down and it helped some, but still rubbed on hard turns. I later switched to the 4.5 BS, but then it stuck out too far (even with rolled fenders, they would rub on hard turns and stuff)
I think if I had to do it again, I'd go 5.5" and space it out a touch if it still rubbed on the inside after relieving it with a hammer.

The rears on my 83 were 15 X 8 with 4.5" of back spacing. The tires were too wide for the wheels (265/50/15s) They lips are rolled and they never rubbed but the car had some weird old school load leveler springs on the back. What you run for springs will make a difference too. I now run Ford Bullitt springs on the back now that are cut one coil, they lowered the rear 3/4" of an inch but they're much stiffer than stock so I won't have nearly the squat a lot of cars do. Just keep that in mind when reading these posts. As you can see in the pic (barely) I am still getting front extension and weight transfer without the car dropping the rear(those are Lakewood 50/50's on the back to believe it or not). Hope this helps some.

Here's what I got on my 88 GT for test fit until I have my 85 Notch finished. These will be going on the 85 Coupe.
Depending on what front width you go you will need to figure out your backspacing based on that. Personally I don't think Weld wheels that are wide all the way around on a car look that good but hey do what you want.
As far as the rear.... I'm running a 15x8 with a 5.5" backspacing and a Nitto DR 275/50-15. I did very little inner fender well massaging for good fitment and removed the quad shocks since I put aftermarket control arms on. Otherwise you can just flip them around. I did this on my 85 Notch when I had 15x8 Rodlites on the back of it also with a 5.5" B.S. Now my 88 GT is lowered about 1" more than my 85 Notch is and I still have no tire clearance issues with the 275/50-15 Nitto Drag Radials. I also ran the same Nitto Drag Radial back when i had the Rodlites on the 85 Coupe. With the 88 GT lowered the rear outer wheel well lip needs to be rolled just a tiny bit. Since the 85 LX sat up a little higher, the tire wouldn't hit and I never had to roll the lip on it and it didn't hit for me. I ran it hard at the track and it still didn't hit. It was close but cleared. Also account for suspension - if you have a tight suspension with aftermarket control arms and new shocks that makes a difference when thinking about suspension and body movement under hard cornering or launches.
Do the 15x8 with any 275/50-15 tire you won't regret it - it fills up the rear wheel wells nicely. It takes about 20 minutes of tapping and "light pounding" on the inner fenders with a hammer. It'd not a hard job and if you're car isn't lowered then leave the lip. I drove the 85 Coupe for a couple months 80 miles a day to work and drove it from Philly to Long Island without an issues with rubbing or hitting. How's that for an example. Here's the pics. Also remember that a Nitto Drag radial has a squarer side wall profile and if you go with a tire like a BFG Radial T/A the side wall has more radius to it or less squared off so that will get you a little more tire side wall clearance.
