This is on a convertible '84 that is stock in every way suspension-wise.

I picked up a set of Cobra R replica's and they are 17x9. I'm concerned about having a mismatched looking set of tires so I'm coming to you guys for help.

I'd like to run the 255/40 on the front and a 275/40 on the rear but will i be able to install a pro-kit later on w/o major issues(i'm not afraid to roll a fender lip)? I heard that the k member is narrower on the earlier cars, is this true and will that affect me on this?

If thats not going to work should I run a 245/40 or 245/45 on the front? I'm more concerned about losing turning radius after dropping it(rubbing) and being about to fit a big tire out back. I'd go w/ a 285 if i thought it would fit.

thanks. sorry for the straight up noob questions so far.

I ran 17" wheels with 245/45/17 and they rubbed, not much, but they did. The k is 1/2" narrower per side, and it will be fine. The rear will be fine with the 275, I had no problems ( I also didn't use quad shocks either).

will the 245/40 be too short of a side wall and look funny even though it might give me the extra clearance? I think there is almost 1" difference in height.

I really wish i could fit my left over 315's on the back from my camaro. it'd look like a steam roller.

thanks

sounds good especially since the 245/45 is the cheaper tire.

I would run the 245-40 or a 235-45 up front, with a 275-40 out back. It won't look funny up front so long as your car doesn't already have a serious rake. The older fenders don't have that extra clearance, so I wouldn't go lower than 1.3" drop in the front. Ask me how I know.
