Can anyone tell me more about these cars? I've been looking for a LTD wagon, they're attractive to me as four door Mustangs with that great aftermarket to draw on. But is a LTD 2 the same deal?

Here's his ad...

I have a 86 ltd 2, wagon, same as fairmont just a litttle more stylish nose. It already has a 5.0. with trick flow cam, springs, mild ported exhaust on stockk heads, explorer intake, 70mm bbk t/b c/l 76 maff, motor low miles on rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pump talking 500-1000 maybe. It has a rebuilt AOD hooked to stock colum shift, work at beaverton ford, trans has all new frictions and so on. 8.8 REAR with 3.73 gears. its tan with tan pleather interior, body and interior in decent shape minor dings.runs and drives good. it has 3 inch wide welds on front and i do have 10 inch welds for rear but they rub pretty bad, can with wife in it , left in drive went 14.42 3 times in a row hot lapping 99 mph. has minor issues, i put a 5.0 tank in it and haven't figured out how to get gas gauge to work, minor rear diff pinion seal leaks. new 3 core radiator with newwer cobra electric fan, 130 amp alt conversion also done.
i would sell for 2500 with welds or 2000 without turn key, i would also put new tags on it.
forgot has 2 1/2 exhaust with x pipe and mac mufflers with 3 1/2 chrome tips out back under bumper.

It's not an "LTD 2". Ford made the (full-size) LTD II in '77, '78, and '79, then the "II" was dropped from the LTD name for '80.

The mid-size (Fox platform) LTD was produced from '83 through '86. Since it is built on the Fox platform, almost everything for Mustangs/Capris will also fit the LTD.

^ What he said.

I just moved and two doors down from my house is an LTD II. I should park my car next to it and take a photo to show the differences.

Ford has been confusing haven't they.

Ford Fox:
Mustang
Fairmont
Granada
Thunderbird
LTD
Mercury Fox:
Capri
Zephyr
Cougar
Marquis

Especially confusing when you consider the models not including Mustang and Capri and further the two and four door sedan models. The Zephyr lasted until 81 then came the Cougar two and four door sedans and wagons in 82 all the while maintaining the XR7 as a separate body. Then in 83 the Marquis took over for the Cougar sedans and wagons. Not to be outdone by Mercury Ford replaced the Fairmont with the Granada in 82 but then flipped again and called it an LTD in what was it? 84 or 85 after they had restyled the Tbird and Cougar to the Aero bodys?

The LTD II followed the Torino and don't forget the ever popular 77 Cougar four door sedan and wagon.

FOMOCO was very spastic during the 70's and 80's.

That would be really helpful, I think. So long as your neighbors don't call the cops on you or something.

no,i think it's an 'RV' kinda thing,it has to be a wagon to fit a can big enough for the wife to use.

(if she's really tall you have to put a sunroof above for her head to stick out, otherwise she'll be awful cranky the whole time she's in the can.)

all the info on building and installing can be found at www.wifecan.org)
