The fan controller under the passenger seat in our 82 Gt 2.3T has given the ghost. Any idea where I can get another or do we have to fix ours. This controller may physically look like the 1 used for the regular 2.3 cars but it is electrically different according to the circuit descriptions in the shop manual.
The 1 for sale on E-Bay will NOT work. I sent the fellow the info but he keeps posting it'll work on a 82 2.3 Capri.

Do you have a pic of what it looks like? I don't think I've ever seen the early fan relays, only the later type that is mounted under the steering column.

This is the 1 being sold on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__82-84-Ford-Mustang-Mercury-Cougar-Multi-Use-Relay_W0QQitemZ250293611655QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20Acc essoriesQQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20Ac cessoriesQQddiZ2811QQadiZ2865QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem250293611655&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A10%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
I was talking with the fellow and he said it was just a smaller package but the pin outs were the same. My manual says no and although it shares the same "box" the inners are different. Fans on Turbo Fords will come on with the ignition off if the motor is warm enough. Also monitors carb temp. If I had a scanner I could post the 2 schematics

You would be most likely correct. That fan controller is for the later cars. My 86 Capri and 88 Mustang use that type of relay. That one most likely won't work for you. I would be interested to see what yours looks like. Is the place where the harness plugs in the same?

I'll take a pic later and post it. Part number is E1DB-8C609-B1A Made in Canada 2DB and it has the same 8 pin connector keyed the same way. There are no markings on the circuit board. Unit mounts under passenger seat

What is wrong with your existing controller?

You would be better off to rewire that whole thing and ditch that controller. I had so many fail on me, almost always at the wrong times.
A good 12V relay would do the job, and you can also find a temp switch that would activate the fan a bit sooner than the stocker would. The stock temp of about 230* is kind of high IMO.
My current set-up is controlled by my MegaSquirt, but I have found a lower temp switches and used them before.

Don't work. Quit 1 day, some smoke so we were able to find it. Worst part is we didn't realize til recently that we had the circuit description in our manuals. The part on Ebay got me going at it again. Probably tackle it this winter, set up a test bed and see whats what. Push come to shove I can now make my own up with the info I have and shove it in the same box. I'll just have to get an edge connector from a normal 1 for the interface. Anything has got to be better than the switch we use now.

Like I said...mine are now in the trash, and I will never use another.
