Now that I've been getting parts in for the restoration, I have some questions on re-electroplating existing parts to factory Ford original. I'm already planning on taking some parts off ole four eyes and re-etch them.

For example, some parts were electroplated using a nickel base, but what is the correct electroplate metal base used on other parts, like metal lines, brackets, pumps, electric motors, and other "yellowish" parts?

Any recommendations for electroplating kits? What's the best way to prep the metal? Obviously a sand or bead blast is good, but is there anything else that needs to be done?

What's the process to do partial electroplating of exhaust components? Is this even possible?

Are you planning on electroplating yourself?

IMHO, its worth it to just outsource that job. If you do, keep detailed lists (and pictures) of everything you give them.

I am planning on doing most of it myself. Most of the parts I'm doing are for corrosion protection and will be out of sight. This includes door items, brackets, and under-dash parts.

I will probably have visible parts like engine brackets done professionally. :tu:

to answer one of your ?'s anything that conducts electricity can be plated,
plastic pieces are electostatically done in a vacuum chamber
difference be tween "chrome" and "show chrome" is a layer of copper to fill fine voids in the metal to yields a smoother finish
