View Full Version : Which spindles for Mach 1 wheels on '85?

Ok, so I've spent many hours on this forum and corral.net to try to track down the answer to this question. I've bought a set of OEM '03 Mach 1 wheels for my '85 GT project and need to know which spindles to use in the front. From my research, I think I might be able to get by with the '94/95 spindles, but I'm not completely sure due to the narrower K-member on the '85-86 cars. Oh, the wheels are 17x8's and the car already has '87-93 suspension/brakes installed front and back. Would the Mach 1's fit by just swapping the Lincoln rotors onto my '89 spindles that are on the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just get SN95 spindles and hubs and swap them on as then you will be able to run the center caps on the wheels. I know it's more $$$ but better in the long run with the ease of rotor swaps and pad changes.
The struts will need to be replaced and an adapter is needed for the SN95 lines to match up on the passenger side.
I just did this to an 87 GT and we used ranger axles and drums on the rear.
Good luck.

I have lincoln rotors and just put machs on today.. fit fine...but the guy before me made a custom dust shield for the bearings out of a starbucks cap(ghetto but effiecent ;) ) I dont think its the politically correct way but you can get away with it

Nice. Any pix of the new wheels mounted?

As mentioned above the use of the SN95 spindles will work out nicely for you. Also you would then have the option to install cobra calipers/rotors and the added benefit of additional braking power which is a good thing!

Yeah, I originally wanted bullits, but realized that I saw way too many foxes with them on. If the lincoln rotors will work, that's the way I'm going to go for now. This project is already over budget due to me buying a '95 cobra engine to put in it when all I really needed was a valve seal job :D

I have a set of 94-95 spindles if you need them. Also another member has the brakes for them which he posted in my thread. Here is my link: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread.php?t=64684

when running the sn95 spindles on a fox dont you have to either run sn95 Ball Joints, or use a spacer ?

NICE!! I have an '86 and most of the parts for this swap, but I have a few questions to help sort out some final details, though...
1) What tire size did you use?
2) Any rubbing or alignment issues?
3) Caster/camber plates?
4) Did you lower it?
5) Did you change the MC?

i did this on my 86 1. I have 245/45/17's on the front on 17x8 wheels, 2. you have to get an alignment afetr the swap, rubs slightly on full compression on full lock, this differs btwn cars(im lowered a good bit). 3. I dont currently have CC plates and have been running this setup for three years(have a set of MM plates to install) 4.Im lowered with eibach sportline sprindgs
5. I have a town car MC to install but havent done it yet. i currently only have the fronts done but have a rear disc swap to do also and will put on the MC when i do that

Where does it rub, exactly?? Same size on the rear? How many inches are you lowered?? Thanks!!

Your car looks really nice... As for the 17" Ponys, like my album shows, I am partial to the chrome '96 Cobra wheels myself...

LOVE the look of your car. Could you please answer a couple of questions?
Is your car lowered... what springs and how low?
Are you using CC plates?
What color is the scoop?
Could you send me more detailed pics of the rear spoiler?
THANKS
