I'm in the market for a new car and I've always wanted this particular year and model. I'd like to find an unmolested car that has low miles (say under 60,000) original paint and all with no history of an accident.

How much are these cars going for? In what range should I expect to pay? Does anyone here have something for sale? I tried looking on some of the car value sites, but they're not always accurate. Is it safe to say that these cars are actually starting to increase in value?

Thanks!

so you want a 22 year old car, low miles, with a perfect clean history, thats in near perfect shape? thats less than 3,000 miles a year.

8-15K assuming there is one somewhere that someone would be willing to sell.

lol. Well, when you put it like that... yes!

I'm not saying they're a dime a dozen. I'm just saying that's what I'm hoping to find and curious about the expected price range. Thanks for the reply!

Bumped this into the Car Buyer Assistance area as it seems much more appropriate there. Once you've gotten some idea of what you want to look for and how much you want to pay, post up a WTB ad.

welcome to the site

what kind of general condition are you look for? one thats been taken care of like a baby, regular maintence, or a fixer upper?

I picked up a black 86 GT w/126k miles, unmolested for $200, of course it wasnt perfect, had a fender replace with a blue one, interior was pretty dirty and it had a bad water pump

but I think I got a good deal

This is something like what I'm looking for. Is this an average price for this condition?

There's a red '86GT in Queens, NY that has 32K miles for sale. It really is perfect & unmolested, but he is looking to get $12K for it. Yeah...you could say that prices are on the increase for low mile, original 4 eyes.

That was a great deal on that car IMO.

Do you want a car to drive every day, just on the weekends, put in the garage as a hopeful investment? Willing to get a little dirty maintaining a 20+ year old car?

What ever car I get, it'll be a weekend car for the most part. It will be garaged, but I won't be looking at it as an investment. I'll be doing work to whatever I get too. My plan is to build the engine up to have around 500hp at the wheels. I'm going to switch over to 5 lug and put on a nice set of brakes. Probably the complete Baer 5 lug conversion kit and I'm also thinking of going with a full Maximum Motorsports coil over kit. It's definitely going to be fun to drive when I'm done. :D

if your changing everything out why worry about the low miles as long as the body is good

x2 It makes no sense spending all that $$$ for a car you're gonna change a bunch of stuff on. Find a solid four banger and have fun.

I ended up spending under 5 grand, it's pretty much stock, the interior is nice and clean, the exterior is alright but could definitely use paint. It's perfect for what I've got planned for it. I'm going to convert mostly everything from my 93 Cobra over to it this winter and paint it down the road. I'll tell you what... a stock 86gt sure is slow! haha.
