Here in argentina we have some standard TRX with standard 15" tires, I'll take some pictures on next meeting...

Also one of the club members had made some 16"x8 replicas

I've read threads, years ago on the Corral I believe, where someone had a set of TRX's turned down to 15" on a CNC mill or lathe. Whether that is a good option or poor idea due to reducing the material thickness and therefore weakening the rim; I do not know......

About turning down them to 15" i've been told here that it wont be good due to the loss of thickness that will cause a strenght loss and you can break them...

It's better trying to fit regular tires on, or making a clone as we're doing on a standard messure

Can't fit regular tires on a TRX rim, neither fitting TRX tires on regular rims ... tire bed is incompatible.

I'll post in a few weeks the pictures of regular tires fitting a TRX rim, it's not easy to fit them, but they fit, one of our pacecars is running for some years on this...

How can you fit a 15" tire on a 15.34" rim ?
And it's not only a mater of diameter, even if you're able to fit it (can't see how regarding the tire bed shape) the sidewalls would have lot of stress ... pretty dangerous ... wouldn't even try.

Naja

Well, it stresses the walls, yes... but I can tell you it fits, and it's running like that for about 3 or 4 years...
If I have to pick that for mine, I'll do a clone on 16" as I'm doing...

I know they are expensive.....but the tires are still available through Coker brand new - or maybe thats what you are trying to avoid

If they're available, that's the way to go... Here in my country there is NO option... no one imports them anymore since the 80's

if someone made a metric drag radial that would be fine

Just because you can't get the right tires doesn't mean you should even consider this.

I would never recommend anyone to use mismatched wheels or tires. I wouldn't even MENTION that some yahoo squeezed 15" tires onto those rims for fear of somebody trying something similar.

This is your life we're talking about. Saving a few bucks at the expense of your safety and those riding with you or people on the road is not worth it.

I see four possible options:

#1 Buy the right tires.

#2 Have a trusted wheel shop cut the centers out of TRX wheels and put them into standard 15" or 16" wheels.

#3 Run OTHER rims for now.

#4 Wait. There will be reproductions of the TRX wheels in standard sizes I believe. I have heard that people are working on it.

get a set of 10 hole wheels and the set of trx and take them to a machine shop and they will cut out all the centers and then machine the trx centers and then reweld them back to gether.

Help me understand the reasonings here....you can still get real Mich. TRX tires from Coker for these rims. If you are trying to put drags on them....why, just use 10 holes or something else 15" or 16". Its not like you can see the TRX style going down the strip  Or if you can't get them exported out of the country, surely you have contacts here in the states that will help you out. By the time you buy TRX wheels, 10 hole wheels, pay a wheel shop to do the mod, then buy the new tires....why not just by the 190/60/390's from Coker?

I totally agree with you mike... If in USA you can get brand new TRX, that's the way to go...

Here in Argentina they squeezed a regular goodyear tire and made it fit... It's not safe enough for me, but each one has it's own standards...

About the custom made TRX, we've made really good TRX reproductions in 15" and in 16", I think for the one that loves TRX (I'm not one) this is definitivly the way to go

if you pull up with some trx's on your car people are going to say wow that is slow but if it were to fit some drag radials it would be very inconspicuous or sneaky. plus i like challenges and to be different.

I've been in and around the tire industry for 25 years. People have been dying for years trying to mount 16 in tires on 16.5 in rims. When those beads seat it's violent business when they fit, much less when your adding a whole new set of stresses on the bead. A set of wheels or tires is cheaper than my life.

That would be really cool. They really should repro these rims in a standard 16" or 17".

Unless I found a mint set of used tires for a reasonable price, the TRX's are not going on my 82GT anytime soon. I don't think it's worth $417 a tire from Coker that's for sure.
