How can you tell the difference and what years did make the change?

You can't find a 28 oz 157 tooth flywheel that a 10.5 inch clutch will bolt to from a stock application. You'll need to buy one aftermarket. (That's what I had to do for my 351W)
5.0: 79-80- 28 oz imbalance 157 tooth 10 inch clutch
5.0: 81-85- 50 oz imbalance 157 tooth 10 inch clutch
5.0: 86-93- 50 oz imbalance 157 tooth 10.5 inch clutch

can a flywheel be re-balanced?
I do believe so, but I'd see if the cost of having it rebalanced would be cheaper than just buying a new one.

i thought it was 50oz for modern 302, and 28s for 351s and really early 302s.
