I searched and found a billion and a half threads on taurus fan installs as well as Mark VIII fans. But I am having trouble understanding what parts I will need.

I run autox and sometimes need to run the car back to back with little cool down time. The stock 83 belt driven fan isn't cutting it. The motor is a mild 306 with exploder heads.

What parts are needed to do the conversion? I don't have many junkyards in my area so I will need to buy online. What about the overflow tank? The stock 83 tank just leaks all over the place since the top doesn't seal. Could I use a 93 style tank with a taurus fan? What controls the fan?

Oh and the stock t-stat has to go..going 180 with the fan install.

I've posted this link 100 times on here but not many people beleive me when i saw this is EXACTLY what you need. I used it and mine works great. I tried to do it on my own the first time and just burned up switches. Follow this

That's basically what I did on my Lightning, taurus fan/hayden controller, except I never changed the relay from the one that came on the hayden controller and I have not had any problems in three years running it.

And it cools the 351 just fine using only the low speed on the fan.

there is the u pull it in aurora , roughly eola and new york st and if you want some one to pull it for you, I55 salvage roughly I55 and south of I80. ( look up address) the i55 you can call and see if they have the part. the u-pull it , pay your 2 bucks to get in and take your chances, but i cant rever not remember a taurus not being in the yard.from 90-93 (memory)they where the number 1 car sold. i am using my stock tank, but i do keep the tank filled low , because it is a little small. picked up the parts for the fan relay at farm and fleet at us30 and douglas in montgomery.

94 95 v8 fan works great and so does the new black magic fan with the large fan shroud made for the mustang in cludes eveything i think itis like $300 but works great i have it on my 347 stroker with 76mm turbo and have no overheating issues at all. and it still uses a nechanical waterpump not electric

If the '83 stock fan isn't cutting it, my question would be - what else is compromised in the cooling system? You are aware that the fan is only a factor when the car is sitting still and at very low speeds?

All the Taurus fans in the world won't help you if your radiator is plugged or you have a hose collapsing.

Your mention of the coolant overflow tank is interesting. That was never designed to get full in the first place. If yours is, it makes me think your cooling system is getting over pressurized, like you may have a blown head gasket.

The '83 stock fan is definitely able to cut it with a healthy cooling system.

What happen is that I did my run (autox), 50 seconds of full tilt boggie then had to parked it (idled) right away..then run 3 minutes later with another full blast. It was upper 80s that day...the stock fan didn't have a change to cool the car down. Having an electric 2 speed would have been nice.

The tank was a little less then half full but with the hard cornering the coolant sloshed over the sides. Not bad..but enough to drip down the frame rail. Spilling anything is a no-no in autox.
