Are E5 heads and E7 heads the same head? I have heard they are the same, but don't really know.

If memory serves me right, the e5 heads are the older (I am pretty sure that's what I pulled off my '83) mustang heads. The e7 were the truck heads and used on the '87 up mustangs. They will bolt on without issues, but the e7 heads are an improvement.

You wouldn't have pulled E5 heads off your '83 unless someone else put them there. E5 is the year code for 1985.

what would have been on the 83's? the engine in my mustang was pulled from a truck by the previous owner.

E5TE heads are similar to E7TE heads, but not exactly the same. Both were on truck engines, and E7TE were also on '87+ H.O. engines (Mustang, T'bird/Cougar, Mark VII).

E5TE heads were not on '85 Mustang/Capri engines, E5AE heads were.

E5AE heads are not similar to E7TE heads. The latter has larger ports and smaller combustion chambers.

'79-'84, and '85 CFI engines had D8OE heads.
