Some AODs had a longer case than the auto transmissions that were in the Mustang/Capri, and they will not fit. I thought CVs were included in that group, by I may be wrong.
Regardless, an AOD behind a 347, or even a mildly modified 302, should be rebuilt to handle such.

CVPIs maybe, but I don't believe the standard CVs were longer. Mostly vans and
Town Cars got the longer units. And Marauders. ;)
BTW, the cases are actually identical, it's the tailshaft housing and output shaft
that are longer. (Truck units also have a larger diameter tailshaft bushing.)
I have an AOD from an '84 Colony Park StaWag out back, and it's the same length
as the Mustang unit.

I think he is referring to the other box style Crown Vic with the 302's. I put a truck AOD in my convertible. I had to swap the shifter linkage, other than that is was the same length. Remember, the governors are different from a Mustang to any other AOD. They will all work but it will change your shift rpm. I just used the truck governor and it worked fine but it did not stay in gear as long as the Mustang one. I also used the torque converter from the truck as well. Again, Mustang's have different stall speeds than the cars or trucks do but it is so small it is not even noticable.

Yes, and an '84 Colony Park is just such a beast.
