My shiny new Edelbrock carb is drilled and tapped on the right for a chevy and I want to tap out the left for the proper fule line routing. Cannot find a 5/8-20 tap anywhere. Anyone done this and have a tap for sale or rent?????

If you find some bigger than 1/2 inch let me know, I need to tap a bumpsteer kit deeper. There are kits with taps over 1/2 inch, but at 150 plus shipping, it is a little more than I want to spend, plus the bumpsteer kit was only 130.

How big and what thread do you need? The trouble Im having is 20 thread pitch is an odd one. 18 is the common. Taps all over e-bay for 20 bux or so....

I have to look it up again, it is the size of the inner tie rod end from a fox.

if you have a local fastenal or tooling supply store they would have your tap for you or be able to get it for you. at our shop we go from 0-100 up to 3 inch but over the last 5 years we do not use the ones over 1 inch b/c we just thread mill those threads b/c it goes alot quicker and cheaper.

McMaster Carr sells 5/8-20 taps but they are expensive at $35 plus shipping. And a thread that big is going to be difficult to drill/tap by hand without cross threading , getting off centerline, etc. If you really want that side threaded why dont you call Edelbrock and explain your situation. They should be able to machine a new housing/air horn with the correct port threaded for you. They must do that as thats why they cast-in both sides to begin with.

I don't want to sound naive, but wouldn't running the fuel line on the left side of the carb interfere with the throttle linkage/cable? Especially since the inlet on a Edelbrock is in the rear of the carb.

We may have some at work that I can "borrow" for a while. I'll take a look on Tuesday. You guys need a 5/8-20 and a 1/2-20 right?

There is a really cool hard line that runs from the fuel pump to the carb w an inline filter, fits nicely under the linkage and comes anodized. Looks nice. As for taping the hole, no big deal. Drill it out to the correct size and tap it before you start in on the beer for the day. Actually I plan on chucking it up in my drill press but turn and feed it by hand. I have done it many times and will be OK.

Ohio is a long ways from Oregon, Laugh. I think I will buy one from M Carr, 35 plus the ride is acceptable, and then I will have one to loan to others in need.

If you were kind enuff to borrow one from work and loan it me, Paypal you a hun or so for a deposit so you know you get it back, ship to me, ship back to you, unpaypal the deposit etc, to me it seems there is more time and logistics involved that 35 bux just to buy one. But thanks tho.
