so i finally got to taking my carb off to find that vaccum leak thats been bothering me now for awhile, and i noticed some marks on the gasket, right up in front. i eyed over my carb, checked to make sure all the screws were tight, and they were. looked for other noticable things and found none, so i put the carb back on and the leak was worse!? instead of a whistling its now a sucking noise. i'm going to pick up a brand new gasket this week, and i'll go over every little bit of my carb to make sure its not the culprit. however i was wondering, would a leak like this make my car miss horribly around 3 grand? i assumed it was but i was told that it shouldnt make that much of a difference?

I just went through this with mine and I thought it was the carb also. It ended up that the intake gaskets were leaking. They were easy to replace but I did it twice as one must have not sealed or something. Mine was like a rev limiter was on it after about 3000-3500 rpm. I ended up putting a performer rpm intake and 1405 Edlelbrock on it, it has a whole new attitude now.

this aint the intake i'm almost positive, i took a hose an d held it to my ear. and that was the first place i checked, i ran the hose up and down the intake, but it only got loud when i put it under the front of the carb, before i took my carb off it made a whistleing noise, and now you can hear the air "sucking" through?

spray some starter fluid around the gaskets to pinpoint the area that is leaking, when it revs higher thats where it leaking from.

heres the thing, we tried that, and still couldnt find it, then again, if it was still leaking from the carb gasket, it would be hard to get toi the front of the gasket, its a 650 holley, and it sticks out sorta far in the front...i think i'm just gonna bug a new gasket and pull it back off and take a really close look at it
