i was wondering how hard it is to put a fuel injected 302 from a 90gt into an 84 capri that was carburated. do i have to put the whole harness off the 90 into the capri. If so, what about the gauges and lights, because i do know they are different. Is there an easy way to do it i guess is what i'm asking.
any help would be appreciated.
yeah, my neighbour smashed my 90 the other day, taking it for a test drive after setting the timing. he is paying for it, believe me, i'm mustang shopping as we speak. pics to come.

Get both wiring diagrams, and only splice the engine harness in, along with the fuel pump circuit.

There are 4 circuits that need to be established for the 90 EFI system to work.
ECM power
MAF/O2
Fuel pump
Ignition
All the diagrams are here: http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=6

That is a very big job in my opinion. I am getting ready to do the same thing on my 85 GT.

thanks guys, i think it'd be worth it though. thanks for the info. and the work doesn't bother me, i'm in this hobby for life.

Bigger job to do the conversion the way I am. I'm using a 94-95 ecm/harness from a 5.0/AODE car in mine...:omg:

Seriously take a piece of ply wood and lay the ECM harness out on it and use nails to wire tie the harness end to and also at each junction where the stock one makes a change in direction for another sensor or other tiems.
By all means remove the salt and pepper connectors. They are the cause of a lot of issues on cars with a bunch of miles. corrosion happens at the center ground wire setup.
I am in the process of completing my harness... I have it hanging on the wall in my garage and can now replicate the wiring when I have the need for other projects.

im surprised they dont make a plug and player jumper harness or conversion harness

It's actually a pretty easy swap. I am putting a 2.3 4 cyl. from a '93 Mustang into my '70 Maverick! I kept the original gas tank and used an external EFI fuel pump for an '89 F150, and the car is currently up and running, only a few little odds and ends way from being drivable. The hardest part is going through the harness and removing all the extra crap you don't need, like mine had wiring for the air bags and crap in it. I'm about to drop a EFI 5.0 into my Capri the exact same way I did it in the Maverick.

They do, I used one.

Painless wiring makes a plug and play harness, I hear it isn't very good.
www.fordfuelinjection makes a good plug and play harness if you can get ahold of them to get one.
http://www.thedetailzone.com/5.0%20FI.htm this is a really nice harness.
I just can't afford to spend that much or I would have bought one.

You know this subject has been discussed a thousand ways to tuesday on this board. If you do a search using such terms as 'EFI conversion', 'carb to EFI', etc you will get ALOT of entries and alot of good info.
Having said that - to your question of 'how hard is it' - well that's 'hard' to answer. For some guys its a piece of pie, for others its a nightmare. For most its somewhere in between but I would in no way say that it is 'easy' and I would agree that it is 'a big job'. You need to really understand the EEV-IV SYSTEM before you get into this swap as there are so many subsystems. There is the electrical harnesses, the high pressure fuel system, and the computer and all the sensors.
Unless you substitute the wiring harnesses of an entire late EFI Mustang into an your pre-EFI Mustang (which many have done) then there is no 'plug and play'. No year underhood EFI harness will directly connect up to a non-EFI main underdash harness. They dont even plug and play one EFI year to another (example: you cannot plug and play a 91 Mustang harness into an 87 Mustang even if both were 5.0L). And NOBODY makes harnesses that 'adap' late factory EFI harnesses to earlier factory underdash harnesses. The aftermarket harnesses (Painless, FordFuelInjection.com, etc) basically have 'stand alone' harness that completely substitute for the factory harness set. To complicate things even more the EFI harnesses were a bit different each year 1986 thru 1992 (the 92 and 93s were the same). Additionally the entire EFI systems were designed to be transmission specific and the 'identity' of the system was actually determined by the O2 sensor harness! Most EFI retrofits utilize a combination of the late underhood harnesses (EFI, engine, and O2) with the existing vehicle's underdash harness and the people doing the swap make the necessary 'splices' to connect the EFI harness to the underdash harness.
You could use the underhood harness set from your 90 in your 84 but you will need to do some splicing and 'create' the wiring needed for the fuel pump/relay. Ideally the 92-93 harness set is best as it incorporates the fuel pump/relay circuit into the EFI harness itself where in pre-92 the fuel pump/relay circuit was part of a seperate body harness.

What dash harness integration would you need to get the EFI up and running?
All of those harness kits I mentioned above are simple 4 wire hookups, all that is needed to get the motor in and running properly. No need to integrate them into the dash harness of the car to make it run. The only other thing needed to get it running would be the fuel pump wiring and that doesn't need any integration with the rest of the cars wiring either and those kits deal with that too.
