The Mrs and I got away without the kids for the last 5 days.
Stayed in Chatham MA within walking distance to the Beach.
Was so nice to get away!!
It is a private cottage that a friend owns.
Ohhh the water was so warm too...real nice!
Well back to reality!
Here are a few pics I took while I was cruising around.
The railroad bridge.

Nice pictures Jeff. It has been really nice weather for a vacation to the cape this week.
Reminds me of home. I sure do miss living there sometimes and I especially miss the car shows every Tuesday night in the summer. Its one of the best places to live in the north east.

Hey Robert...I didn't realize you moved to Westborough.
Little closer to work now huh!
The show this past Tuesday was a let down....nobody showed up.
If all the cars that came through and left, half the lot would have been full but
they kept seeing 10 cars, then left.

Yea, I moved here about 7 months ago. It certainly is a MUCH better commute (about 10 minutes from work) but it isn't permanent. The fiancée really wants to be closer to family back home. I am sure we will make it back to the area soon enough. There also isn't really much room up here for the car. That is currently sitting at a body shop in Falmouth getting work done.
That's too bad that the show was a let down this week. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it anyways. I haven't been to a single car show all summer!

Nice pictures! I wish I had $500 for a digital SLR camera.
Great shots of the train going over the Bourne bridge. That beautiful RR bridge was completely renovated in 2002/2003. That train is the Cape Cod Central Railroad - its the only train passenger train that still uses those tracks. Maybe they also use it for freight trains but Im not sure about that. The track ends in Hyannis - then it becomes the Cape Cod Rail Trail!
Good pic of a USCG Falcon Jet out of Otis ANG Base - only a few miles from where you were in Bourne - fairly common sight around Cape Cod. It was most likely on a routine training exercise.
Did you visit the Cape Cod Canal visitors center in Sandwich (run by the US Army Corps of Engineers)? It is a very good visitors center with all the historical and technical info about the building of the canal/bridges. There is also a radar screen that you can view showing all the boat traffic in the canal.
If you really want to see where the pilgrims first landed - and where our nation was born - go see the Pilgrim Monument and Museum in Provincetown. For about $7 you can enter and climb to the top of the 250 ft structure (yes 25 stories climb - about 10 minutes if you are in relatively good shape). The cornerstone of the Monument was laid down by President Teddy Roosevelt and it was dedicated by President Howard Taft - the only Presidents other than JFK to visit the outer cape (and they both visited Provincetown before JFK was even born). The views of Provincetown, the Province Lands, outer cape, Massachusetts Bay, and the Atlantic ocean are stunning from up there on a clear day.

Thanks
I bought this camera 2yrs? ago now...I had an urge, said the heck with it
and dropped the $1k on it.
I love it!....Just need to take some classes to "REALLY" know how to use it
to the best of its ability.
I have been down to the visitors center and yep, lots of good info there ;)
That was the dinner train that was going over.
We were also up in P-Town, but I left my camera home that day, so no pics
of the monument.

Gee and I thought $500 for a camera was really expensive. I guess I really am poor...

Nice pic's! Plymouth is the town that I grew up in and I've seen that Rock too many times to count. The state does a good job of taking care of the Plymouth waterfront and everything over there that counts for the tourists. It's even better at night when you have a moving car show almost every night. My brother, friend's and I cruise that place a few times per year and it's cool when everyone's looking to see what's coming down the street.
Those pic's are beautiful and I think I'll be investing in the same camera that you have. I'll just have to wait until Christmas to do it.

Glad you had a good time Jeff! Next time you you take a long trip to the cape. Hop on the ferry in Hyannis and spend a day in Martha's vineyard. You will love it. I took my wife over there for a day a couple of years ago. We rented a car and drove all over the island. You can also rent mopeds over there. It is a beautiful place.

Plymouth Rock is kind of an inside joke for the locals. They love seeing the tourists get all hyped up over it and then all disappointed when they realize that its just..."a rock".
You can partially thank my Grandfather for the nice beaches and so forth. He was on the Conservation Committee for 30 years and the "go to" guy for any kind of waterfront changes. He lived and worked on the waterfront for 90+ years and saw many changes in that town. He could tell you exactly what the effects would be on the beach from building a rip rapp and could free-hand a waterline on a new boat and be dead on when the craft hit the water....all with a 7th grade education but a lifetime of experience.
He had great plans for the public beach area (expanding it) and he wanted to get that passed before he passed away. But god just needed him back first.
Outside of Boston, and maybe P-town, its one of the best places in NE to visit. People rent condos down by the wharf and it looks like a blast during 4th of July.

Mike, I'd say everyone owes your grandaddy a lot of thanks ---- 'cause that area has some of the nicest waterfront areas to be found. Those rocks in that pic above look like they've been pressure-washed.
wow, a caged rock.
I figure that's so it won't run away.
