I know its been a while since i have posted any info on the car. Hopefully everyone still remembers it. I traded the C4 auto for a complete six speed set up including spec stage 3 clutch. The only issue im having doing the install is the clutch cable. The driver side valve cover is in front of the clutch cable hole on the firewall. And only an inch and a half away. Sooo, Im doing a hydraulic clutch conversion. Ordered the master cylinder today. I will try to keep everyone posted on this install and the twin turbo install that will follow.

I liked the 6 speed that was in my 03 Cobra. They shift smooth and you can just keep your foot in it and shift it. The best thing I did was after I installed the pro 50 I added a longer handle and it made a world of difference.
4valve= have you ever run your car on the motor? If so what did it run?
Thanks

I am curious which six-speed you are using? I have a T-56 out in my garage from a Viper and I am wondering how tough the swap is.

Regardless which one, except the vette t56, its gonna all, be similar.
D&D I think it is has the parts. Ford also sells kits.
Look up Ken Newman who I believe has a T56 in his Futura.

So did Ford move the clutch cable hole in the 96-04 mustangs to miss the valve cover or does the engine sit higher up in your car?

They may have moved it, but the key thing with his problem is two fold...one its a DOHC engine...two its a 5.4 DOHC engine. Even in an 96-04 car the 5.4 DOHC makes things even tighter.

The T56 is a unit bought from steeda. The clutch cable hole is in the same location on all 79-04 mustangs. The engine just sits way high in my car. I will try to take a pic to show exactly what the problem is. I discovered a new problem today. My trans front cover is not made to accept a hydraulic slave cylinder. The only way to fix it is to purchase a camaro cover. This added to the other hydraulic parts is making that route a little too expensive. So, my new plan of attack is to space the k-member a half inch and do a little custom work on the valve cover to make the cable fit. Oh, and i will have to remove the headers i already have and forge ahead with the turbo set up. Pics to come. Thanks for reading along.

D&D does have the parts and they are very helpful. I am under the impression that the speedo cable/speed sensor stuff is different for different applications, at least that's what D&D told me. I guess what I was wondering about was if there are any fitment issues or modifications that have to be made to the car so it will fit, or is it a straight tranny swap with the right parts.

Its pretty much a bolt in swap as long as you dont have a completly custom car. Like a 5.4 with custom stepped long tube headers that were built around an auto. Im not hooking the speedo stuff up. The only other thing is you will have to make new crossmember mounts further back since the teans is longer.

Then a BMW SMG transmission would blow your mind lol. I work at a luxury car repair/speed shop and I've been driving a hopped up 2003 M3 E46 with one in it. Its an electronically actuated 6 speed trans with an automatic hydraulic clutch, and you have the option to let the car shift the trans for you. Look it up on the net, its pretty sweet.

I forgot who makes it, but there is a concentrically mounted slave cylinder retrofit kit, that sthe slave cylinder on the input bearing retainer like a ranger/F150 M5R transmission. If I remember I'll do some more research on it tomorrow.

Thats what a guy on Corral found out when he put a 5.4 in his SN95 car. http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=915728&highlight=high

The Cobra T56 uses an electronic setup, think GM might too, the Viper apparently has a mechanical, or at least uses a mechanical setup...with an electronic output from what I read. Ford's kit offers you a mechanical tailshaft to use the older style speedos.

I made some progress today with the clutch cable. I first spaced the k-member 1/4" using some aluminum bar stock. I was then able to cut the cable hole out above the factory one. I made a 1/8" steel plate for the cable to pass through and reinforce the area i cut out. It just barely clears now but at least the cable is in. I will try and load the pics soon.
