Ok I am looking for a 5 speed tranny. It's going into an 85 with a 91 302. Nothing special just your typical conversion. Where did you guys find your trannys that had to buy them. I find them sometimes on the net but their used, with high milage. I don't want to get scammed. mpsautosalvage.com ( Mustang salvage yard) Wants $900 for a used one and only a 90 day waranty. I figure for that price I could probably find a reman one. I just need some site where you guys might have gotten yours. Jegs and summit are to much $$$ for me. I have some $$ to spend but I don't want it all going towards just the tranny. Any hints or clues as to what to look for even in a used tranny. I might have to buy one and most of the time they are out of the car so you can't drive it to make sure it shifts good. Should I try buying a reman from like Autozone. I bought one from them for my Nissan truck. It seems to be doing good so far. Any help would be great.

I got a used one from a 88 vert for $68 from the local Pull-A-Part. It's a spare for when the T5 in the Capri goes boom.

I checked the yards around me. Nothing in them, or they are crusing cars fast because of the price of scrap metal.

I got lucky. They get in mustangs from time to time and almost all of them have an auto in it.

Does anyone know if this info is all correct??? If so can I use one of them if I get a proper bell housing?

You just have to look, I paid 300 for a rebuilt box from a 92 5.0, and I bought a complete t-5 set-up from a 95 gt with a hurst shifter for 100.00. Down here they are super easy to find. Did you try carpart.com for any used ones?

Jegs and Summit are selling the world class "Z" transmission - it's alittle tougher than what came stock in the '91-'93 V8 Mustangs. Here in Southern Cal the Pull-Your-Part yards sell T-5s for about $125 but who knows what condition they're in. Also, most of the time you'll find the weaker '84-'89 T-5s.

Awsome thanks guys. I guess I'll be shopping now. I thought that all 91-93 V8 stangs were world class "Z" transmissions. I could be wrong also. It's happened before. ;)

"Z" class transmissions were aftermarket. They were not ever factory-installed in any Mustang.

I've heard good things about Astroperformance too. They were featured in 5.0 and Super Fords mag last year.
