Yes, You read it hear first folks. I hate Little League. More specifically I hate the Little League World Series. Allow me to clarify this point.
I have the (mis)fortune of living a mere 3 tenths of a mile from the "International Little League Complex here in South Williamsport Pennsylvania. Ah yes the home of the yearly Little League World Series, you may have seen it on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC(Too bad it isn't also on ESPN8 - the Ocho )
Well as you could imagine, an event like this draws quite a few people. Let me just say one thing.. South Williamsport is not built to handle this sort of crap. It took me 15 minutes to get home today on a trip that normally takes less than 5. Thats nothing however, but if I wanted to LEAVE my house it would take me a good 45 minutes due to the never ending line of traffic attempting to leave the LL Complex after tonights game.
I was cut off a grand total of 15 times today (Oh **** i guess that says that LL parking is on the left means I should stay in the right lane anyway!), I was given the finger 5 times (Oh these parents are such good roll models) and honked at 3 times (Because clearly honking makes the traffic lights last longer!) Dear god people its only the second day of this 2 week nightmare!
And the spectator traffic isn't the worst of it. We also get to deal with a nonstop barrage of "honey pumpers" which are needed to keep the porta-potties clean, a metric-ass-load of garbage trucks, and an endless stream of food deliveries. Oh its just so wonderful!
Best of all I get to spend the next 2 weeks with a damn blimp floating above my house. This is just slightly annoying. I know at first its like "OOOOooo Look its a blimp!" but after that its more of a "That damn thing is taking video right now.. Wonderful"
Yes I know that the LL Complex was here first, and yes I knew it was going to suck during these two weeks, but I don't care, I'm ranting anyway!

Maybe you should plan a 2 week out of state vacation during the LLWS......or start shooting at the blimp and watch it crash into the baseball complex sending parents and children running down the street screeming while trying to put out the fire that has turned little Johnny's uniform into a polyester death suit.

Why did I just laugh when I read this post? I must be a horrible human being. :pimp:

MOON the blimp. Make them regret being anywhere near your house.
Spell something obscene on your roof so they can't use any footage of your neighborhood.

If you don't enjoy living near the Little League complex then you probably would not enjoy living near a racetrack that holds NASCAR races either, or any large metro city with an outer ring perimeter (or two). Your traffic sounds like normal daily traffic to me.
Crackers & cheese go well with wine.

And to think that the DNC will be here in a few weeks. Just frickin great. A bunch of tree hugging liberal snob jobs over running this fine city that I call home.

I know it might be a PITA right now for you to get around. But I am sure the local businesses benefit from it greatly. It is probably their most profitable time of the year. So I would just deal with it or like someone else said made take a vacation or something.

I feel for you! I know exactly what you are going through as I used to live in Williamsport. Fortunately for me though I didn't live as close to the stadium and I stayed as far away as I could during the series.

...and i thought my 2 hour one way commute to work sucked, and to think I only have to do it 220 times per year. I wish I had your problem.

I understand where you're coming from. Here in Altoona they have a bicycle race one week a year that really plays hell with traffic since they run it on public roads. Each day a different area is screwed up as roads are closed and access to certain areas is pretty much impossible. I hate to think what would happen if fire equipment or ambulances needed access into these areas during a race.
The race marshals and police come down hard on anybody who enters these places during a race. There was a big story a couple years ago about how some local police officers pulled an older guy from his car and roughed him up because he was confused and started to drive into a prohibited area. This year during the race I went to visit my mother who is in a nursing home and was told that I was not allowed to cross the street in front of the home, on foot, because the race was in progress. There were no racers in sight so I crossed anyway, but I probably risked arrest by doing it.
A few years ago it looked like the race would die off as somebody in the organization had siphoned off a large chuck of money for personal use, but since this race is a favorite project of a state legislator, somehow it continues on.
On the plus side the race was reduced to fewer days this year and participation seemed to be way down, so maybe it will die on it's own.
I can't see why these people have the right to close public roads for lengthly periods for this, plus have the police department spend overtime to provide traffic control for it on the taxpayers dime. I don't see anybody closing public roads so we can go drag racing.

the down side is that you don't have to pay as much in property taxes. or you could move.

ERG It never ends, Now I get to deal with a Hit and Run that occurred sometime this weekend (Only noticed it this morning when I went to wash my car). My Fusion's rear bumper cover looks like hell, and my 300 dollar bike rack is ****ed up. How hard is it to leave a damn note people! Have some decency and man up to what happened. Everyone makes mistakes, it happens, just at least admit it!

damn that sucks sue the city for it.

What would sueing the city do? They are guilty of hosting a worldwide sporting event every year that brings large amounts of out of town revenue to the city?
People are rude anymore, how could a driver not know they hit a car and bike rack?

X2. I was neutral on this whole situation until now. Have to wait until 10:00 to watch the scheduled start, now we wait even longer. So i'm watching, send up a smoke signal :D

Let me interject with this statement:
I love Kansas.
We don't have to deal with ANY of this crap.
We get all 4 seasons, sometimes in two weeks
We have plenty of cool stuff to do/see
We have clean air
We have clean skies for the most part.
We have no stupid little league crap.

I'm with Demetri martin in his statement: "The easier it is to draw the state, the harder it is to live in them" hahaha

And Kansas has those weather formations that come and sweep away your home every 5 or 6 years. My company's headquarters is in OK and almost all of the local employees have had something go flying across the state. I will take little league.

Hmm, I've never been hit by one. Neither has anyone in my family.
Tornado alley fluctuates. Its actually really not in Kansas anymore. Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Nebraska are though. We just seem to act like a breeding ground for them.

oh my gawd! that is such a hugh commute! the humanity! You have a sporting event that keeps your town alive and you complain that it is there. So many other cities in the country would kill for that. It's like complaining that you have a goose that lays golden eggs because the eggs are not diamond encrusted.
As for the League itself, it keeps kids out of gangs, off the streets and off of drugs. To hate an organization that will pay the dues of kids that can't afford them because they feel that ALL kids have a right to play baseball is a sad thing.
if you think that an extra 10 minutes is bad, try living directly across the street from a major mall in So-Cal. From a week before Thanksgiving until New Years Day, it would take 20 minutes to drive a mile near my parents house.
