Well here is my situation..... after a pass down the track I am having no vacuum for the brakes & that is a BIG PROBLEM.... I have to get off of the gas immediatly & rev it 2-3 times before I get the brake pedal back...... Keep in mind that this is not a daily driver, 95% track & only 5% street, So I've come to this cause & solution;

Cause: At Wide Open Throttle down the track all of the vacuum is being consumed for the motor so when I let off the gas & go to apply the brakes there is no vacuum for them.

Solution: Install a Vacuum Pump or swap to Manual Brakes

So now the question is, has anyone run a Vacuum Pump on their car???? What are the benefits to swapping to manual brakes??????

You could install a vacuum reservior and it would hold vacuum to run the brake booster. Would probably be good for only one application of the brakes.

I have a manual M/C on mine and it does pretty well, pedal not too hard and stops pretty good.

I am running a towncar M/C, 1" bore, and have converted to 87-93 rotors/spindles and 73mm calipers.

I'd personaly swap to manual breaks. It's simple and looses the booster. Maximum sells a swap kit.

you could try a vacuum canister or swap in a hydro boost from a 87-88 tubo coupe or 03-04 cobra

the MM conversion kit is about $200, but it looks like the most complete "kit" I've seen. Firewall adapter, adjustable pushrod, new pedal, all the hardware. Most of the other kits I've seen just have the adapter and pushrod.

I'm planning on using the MM kit on my 81, which kinda ticks me off considering the blood, sweat, hammering and four letter words it took to get the SN95 booster in.

With the massaging of the strut tower, slotting of fire wall holes, and cussing, I think I'll pass on the Sn95 Booster. I hope I can get the later Fox Mustang booster to work because I can't find the manual brake adapters I've bought. Had a manual trans and auto trans brake pedal too but they're in the same safe place as the adapters. Great wrecking yard finds only to be lost in my collection of crap...

My 79 was far worse than my 82. for some reason it's a lot tighter to get in. I gave up and cut out a larger chunk of the tower and then fabbed up a replacement section around the booster. Now I'm kicking myself cause I could have used the hydro boost from a TC without having to yell and throw things around the shop

does stopping distance decrease a lot when switching over to manual? I have the Cobra kit all around.

The stopping distance won't DECREASE, might increase since you have to leg the pedal more to get the same brake pressure.

make sure the one way valve on your master cylinder is working... the booster itself should store some vacuum... i can go WOT from first to 4th gear, immediately hit the brakes and get plenty of vacuum. I think something in your system is wrong(one way valve), i know some foxes had vacuum canisters inide the fender too, you might want to snag one, then install it with a one way valve to let vacuum in and not out the same line

With a big enough cam you can sure have not enough vacuum to work the booster.

And it should be made clear, the check valve is on the booster not the M/C. And if it was bad there would be booster problems on the street too.
