View Full Version : sequential taillights

I found some things on websites that I was contemplating putting on the car. 1) From a link in the long lived HID thread for E-code lights the people also sold those foot rest that you see in like rally cars. I figure a proper foot mount for when I do passenger runs when I start racing.
2) One of those racecar looking billit fuel doors, I guess I could paint it. I dont see anything wrong with those.
3) Talking to this guy who said he makes LED panels and sequencial kits for Mustangs. i dont mean the bulbs like from superbrightled.com I mean you need to seperate the tail lense from the bucket, better lighting to me, and better than those traffic lights they sell.
4) Not really a secret since updating my CD page exterior section; HIR bulbs and still dont know what headlight type to use with them.

Does the sequential taillight guy have a website? I am interested in those as well.

Sequencials only work with the traditional style tail lights. Those with 83-93 may wanna get a set of 79-82 tails. He's at IIRC NorthWestMustang.com.

I checked 'em out but they make no mention of ones to fit our cars. It also appears that they sell through dealers, not direct.
mustangsunlimited.com is one of their dealers, they are near me; but still no mention of one's for our cars.
If you can get him to make up some maybe we could get a group purchase together or something to make it worth it to them? Just a thought.

not everything is "plug and play", though thats what people want these days.. i'd find out what they have and make it work in my taillights

LED taillight panels is one of these projects I've had in the back of my mind. They can be made plug-n-play with very little effort by anyone remotely familiar with electronic circuits. Create the panel, solder in the LEDs in the correct parallel and series configuration, then solder in the 115x pigtail. A sequential circuit could be added if desired. Just have to figure out how to attach the light panel to the interior of the taillight housing so it stays put.

Thats right, he has dealers. and no they aren't advertised either, but he does have the panels for 79-82 and 83-93. they way they work is to seperate the lense from the buckets and spme trimming may be required. he said they dont sell well, so I told him the guys on FEP may be interested in them. He can make sequencials for 79-82. haven't gotten a price qoute yet were still exchanging emails.
I'd say these where a 3 on the difficulty scale, although he has full tail light assemblies. He sent them in a PDF letter attached to the email. I was asking him about if we where to send out tail lights to be done, buy the panels alone or a whole assembly. Either of those three choices would be good.
The idea of a group buy sounds promising, I like the idea of you all gettinig involved. Some of us go to a few car shows some how show off the lights and hav the rest of the foxbody world in query. I kinda like it not being advertised, kinda makes it feel like some big secret, like ford's future drivetrain plans or something. I also asked him about other foxbodies and if it's possible to do the side marker and parking lights.
I've thought about making some myself but I have no idea how I would start. I'll post the emails later on. I wanna kinda keep this on the DL as DL as things can be on the innerwebz anyway, lol. I dont think I'll tell the guys on FBF just yet!!!

Sounds good just keep us posted. I personally would be interested in just the lights (I would put them in my own housing). Also, did you ask him about a group purchase? Thanks for doing my homework ;)

nope he hasn't replied to me yet. I told him some of you are interested. It would probably be cheaper if he just made them and we put them on ourselves. He said they dont sale well, I say just get the word out and then when we get some and the guys on FBFit'll probably spread as quick as the Crazy Steve guy and his "DEI" idea.

Aren't sequentials played out yet? I've been seeing them everywhere for quite some time.

I don't care if they get played out because I like them and I never really followed fads either. I'm just looking for better lighting. That part of the list just peaked everybodies intrest. Sequencials are just an option. Question is have you seen them on a fox? What may be the norm for one vehicle can be true and uniqy for another like my idea for pantograph wipers on my K10, they look like they would belong on that truck.

As long as you have 3 bulbs in your tailights, you should be able to make this kit work.

Heck yeah. That stuff's a major problem solver for me! If you haven't used it, GET a tube! That would stick any module to anything.

There was a guy on Stangnet years ago that made a kit for his car. There was also/is a guy that is in AZ that was making made to order kits for Mustangs. It was MUCH more than just LED bulbs set to a sequential circuit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6sZg3iL5EY It was similar to this...but on a smaller scale. Only had the reflector area in the 87-93 lights have the LEDs in them I think.

I can make the thing work with two bulbs on each side, as far as the sequencial device. and as far as that video, what the ****? Do you want people to crash?

not nescercerially the sequencial tail lights but just plain LEDs. I know you deal with older Mustangs but I have a foxbody and I can't find the website that sells LED replacements(similar to th ones you sale) for fox bodies, more specifically for 79-82 mustangs for the reason they minus the third bulb are like very other mustang aside from the 84-95 carry the vertical design. I was just looking for the site that sells them, hoping you may have an idea. You aren't the first site I've asked. Thank you

The thing is as far as Fox body(and Fox4) mustangs are concerned 79-82 and I believe 97-04 are the only fox mustangs that carry the traditional tail light that mustangs have had since 65 or very similar. Just to keep it current 79-82 tail lights have the six verticle slot lenses; each one has a two dual function bulbs, each buld lights up two slots the 5th slot is a reflector and the 6th is for reverse. basically they work like the s-197 lights minus a third bulb. 84-93 have completly redesigned tail lights; having one blinker, brake light and reverse. 84-96 lack the traditional tail light design. naw I seen a website and I don't know if I put it on my favorites or not but they sold LEDpanels like for the 1st and 2nd gen mustangs that require you to seperate(i believe) the lense from the buckets. What I was thinking of; because the fact 79-86 arent that poular a mustang and the fact 79-82 Mustang and 79-86 Capri are the only foxes that kept it traditional, I was thinkinig that if I took the sequencial kit for a sn-95 and eliminated the 3rd bulb wires it would work. Only thing is everybody who sells them doesn't have pictures of the harnes itself just what the lights do. That and the lack of a current job have kept me from purchasing a kit to "edit" and make work with my 81 or any early fox with similar lights, like the Lynx or LTD/Marquis. There would be alot of people trading in there LX, Cobra, SVO and GT tails for some 79-82's just to have sequencials.
I'm sure you know what I mean by the LED panels and not those LED bulbs you can order from Super Bright LED or like Autozone. If you wouldn't mind looking at my Car domain page or doing an Image search for 79-86 foxbodies you would see the tail lights I mean. Just about evry car ford had was a foxbody, Granada included. When I come across some cash, I could send you the damaged ones that are on it now, befor I could send you the $60 a piece mint condition ones I found. Actually it would b e nice to have an aftermarket tail light that isn't the ugly traffic light looking altezza we are limited too. I'll add a picture of the back of my car for good measure. Us guys on FEP would love original looking led tail lights or kits like the 65-71 have. The orange on isnt mine, it's just a better view of the lights, That Porsch style panel would be a nice find too.

Okay, I didnt know if I had explained it the right way but yeah you got it. So seeing as the 79-82 only use two bulbs, how large is the panel exactly? I always thought about making some myself but I have know idea how I would do it. I like the fact that although the cars only use 4 bulbs in general that the fact the lense itself gives the appearance of the car having more bulbs than that. The panel is better than the bulb placement. As far as the reverse lights, that could be a seperate panel, But I'd rather find a way to have brighter reverse lights, like modifing the lense to let more light out. I plan on restomoding the car, racing it and the like. One thing I'm improving is the lighting which reminds me to ask you if you can do anything with the side marker and parking lights? The site to my car is cardomain.com/id/JRhapsody

Can somebody simplify this message for me. I cant tell if he's still doing them for 79-82 or if he's using the 83+ design( or just was mentioning that design was done).
Jax:
Sorry you did not get my reply.
The Fox body, 83 thru 93 is in final design and will be going to the production house by this Friday.
I am still undecided about one thing. The large area for the brake will be completely red when the brake is on.
When the turn signal, sequential only, is on, the top will flash the bottom will remain on. The two sections across the center and inner will be red and sequence from the inner to the outside section. The white reverse lens will be red for turn and white when the reverse is on.
I want to make the small section one long board. This would mean you would need to trim the light housing a bit to allow the board to sit flat.
What do you think, Or should the sections be two and sit within the housing as it is now.

Sounds like this guy is making it complicated and in the end it's not going to look good and will probably end up being expensive.

'79-'82 Mustang/'79-'86 Capri would work fine. So would '87-'93 GT.
'83-'86 Mustang and '87-'93 LX will look like **** unless the lenses were all one color (white/clear).
