Door strikes

Going to change my 80 strikes to the 83 up style. Does the nut stay in the jamb or does it fall out when I remove the strike? My convertible would be a lot of work to remove the panels and find the nuts.

supposed to stay in, but sometimes the force required to loosen
25 yr old strikers does bend the "fingers" that hold them in place.
