Is the door glass different on doors with a outside mirror mounted on them?
I want to install a mirror on the right door and don't see how it would mount, looks like the door glass would hit???
Guess I should take the cover off the inside of the mirror on the left side and see how it mounts. Raining pretty hard here today, maybe tomorrow.

There is no way to mount one on the passenger side. Only way to do it is if you swap the door with one that has a mirror mount on it. I wanted to do the same but realized it after I got the mirror off ebay...

Guess I'll have to find that out when it gets here. Can't believe that I can't figure out a way to get it mounted.

Here's a picture of how it's mounted. (sorry about the picture quality, all I have is my cell phone)

Not true at all. I installed a right hand (RH) mirror on my 4-dr Fairmont over 15 years ago. The passenger doors - for a given body style - are all the same, mirror or no (and even power windows or no, but thats a different subject). What is different is that the mirror doors have a small triangular shaped screw-on bracket that the mirror mounts to. There are two screws that mount this bracket thru the top of the door frame (and if I recall the screw hole locations are pre-dimpled) and one more on the outside just above the belt line (it is hidden by the mirror itself). In fact if you look at the 1st pic (of the LH door) in the above post you can see the LH bracket and the heads of the two top mounting screws. You can see how the rearward facing part of the bracket forms the forward vertical glass run. The door window glass is different for mirror vs non-mirror setups.
So to simply install a RH mirror on a non-mirror door you will need:
RH mirror
RH mirror mounting bracket
RH door glass for door with mirror
Im almost certain that you can obtain these parts from 83-86 LTD/Marquis as well as 78-83 F/Z and 81-82 G/C but be aware that some mirror housings were a bit different for the different body styles and/or years. Be sure the one you get matches you existing LH mirror.
Just for the record when I installed the RH mirror I also upgraded both LH and RH to power mirrors from later 83-86 LTD/Marquis. I also upgraded to power windows and door locks (and yes the door glass for power windows is another style of door glass). I did all this in the mid-1990s.

Well, doesn't matter for now, got out-bid right at the end.
Maybe I'll find another one one of these days.

You mean the guy hasn't paid yet?
I always pay immediately.
Really wanted it, but had to leave before the auction ended and I didn't want to bid blind.

I've never had any problems with paypal. I know they charge 3% but I expect to pay for a service that is done and I hate to wait for money orders or something like that to go through the mail.
