hey my fairmont wont keep a charge...first off we gotta hotwire it cuz it dont start with the key. When we shut it down then go to restart it the battery runs out. I'm pretty sure its not the alt., its fairly new. I know the regulaters are different though the years....I think it has an eletric one, not sure? i know we had to put a pionts distribitor in it. idk im lost and not feelin very bright:( all the wirings cobbled up too, ill prolly end up goin to jacobs electric and cashin in my 401k

are you running a wire from the battery to the starter solinoid? If so the alt will not recharge the battery

we get power with the key, just dont turn it over

Bad starter switch or bad neutral safety switch maybe.
