I'm about to rebuild a 85 GT Carb and it still has the plugs covering the mixture screws. question is Should i remove the plugs for better adjustment or leave them alone. Would a MCA judge mark the car down points for have the plugs removed.

You can always put the plugs back, can't you?

The rebuild kit I bought from NAPA had new plugs included. The only way I know to remove them is to drill a hole in them to pry them out?

To do a proper rebuild, they should be removed as they have rubber O rings on the mixture screws. The disassembled carb should be submersed in a can of carb cleaner and soaked but doing so will disintegrate the gaskets and rubber pieces. I bought my one gallon can at Pep Boys. About the only way to get those plugs out as stated is to drill a hole in the bottom of the throttle plate and pry them out. The plugs seem to be made of a hardened metal and I wasn't able to drill into them. I had to remove a good bit of material on my throttle plate to get all four out but it isn't noticable once the carb is bolted down. If you're very careful then, you could have the same results. A complete carb rebuild made my car run much better.
